good find whirly. i'm picking up the last one from my local store tonight. i want to use it with the new buffalo linktheater I'm wondering whether this device has DLNA support, which is supposed to allow this to work like the 'linkstation' NAS drives. I guess I'll find out soon enough.

    Hi 123immy,

This has a DLNA support if you upgrade it to the latest firmware from Maxtor site.

    Cheers,

thanks vishaljh for that. i searched everywhere but found nothing conclusive. even the dlna.org site has only half the supported players, doesn't appear to be mentioned on the maxtor website either! now all i need is a cheap wireless media player and i'm sorted.

    in the shortlist...

d-link dsm 320 - but not sure if this is DLNA compliant - i think it's 'plays for sure' but again that's different lol. these are about 80-90 quid used on ebay

buffalo linktheater - there are a couple of models, P4LWAG is the newer one which is DLNA compliant. The older [cheaper] one i'm not sure about.

any suggestions on the media players most appreciated. :-)
  • Picked the last 200GB one from Llandudno today!

    Thanks to OP!

    I too got a 300gb version.

I didn't realise before bringing home that you can add additional usb drives onto the back of it, increasing the storage available on your network.

It also shares USB based printers :-)

(sorry if both these had been mentioned previously in this thread)
