Moneymaker, have you got anything that you're really interested in, perhaps a new project, learning something new, you know, one of those things that you just know that once you start doing, before you know it it's one o'clock in the morning and you don't want to go to bed.
You're well on top of it and know that even though it's not noticeable to others, you're aware of it and that's the first step towards managing it. You mentioned you'd got a really supportive friend that would perhaps do Slimming World with you - I'd jump at that, you'd have some fun with your friend, a motivational buddy to share recipes with and again, it's filling up time and stopping you picking at things.
Sounds like it's the next challenge all lined up and ready to be conquered :-) In the meantime, make the most of your lovely soft fuller cheeks - people pay a fortune for them now. I always lose weight from my face first, butt last, it's not blummin' fair :-)11th Heaven prizes Number 103

Interesting this discussion re 'other addictions' besides nicotine....
Sleeping at odd hours - sorry guys....so missed the 'great debate' last night
I ate healthily towards the end of my cig life. I was overweight and decided to do something about it so found an online calorie counting healthy eating plan....(couldn't afford WW even before MSE). Bought a pair of scales and I was off
...Lost loads...(like about 5 stone)
Only reason I put it back on was cos of some carb junkie pills. Had to have carbs on them otherwise I'd threw up (and we're talking a snack of 2 sausage rolls and a doughnut = 1000 cals ).
Moneymaker Please don't fret - there are healthy eating plans out there which work that you can do and they're online and free . I can pm you some if you'd like. But I don't want to put them on here cos this page is googable and like it could be triggery for some (exchanging cigs for starvation - not what I'm advocating)...
Have actually lost/maintained weight since e-cig and changing my pills in September :j....Okay so my idea of a 'diet' leaves one wanting (exercise plus max of 1000-1200 cals a day) but still LOL...
Now I'm just concentrating on being healthy - so if I want that doughnut I'll have it. But only one. I won't keep biscuits in the house for example as like I know I'll eat the whole packet LOL all at once. But I will bake for self (or others) sometimes (when I can be bothered)

Day 3 of taking Champix and something is happening. Normally I'm a 20 a day smoker, yesterday I had only enough money for 10 and I didn't miss the ones that I didn't smoke. I also only smoked half of the one's I did smoke as they tasted funny and were doing absolutely nothing for me. So far this morning I've not felt the desperate need to dash to the cashpoint so I can then buy some cigarettes (i will buy some later as I'm not quite ready to quit yet), Strangely i also seem to have gone off coffee and wine which were two big triggers for me but have now developed a craving for peppermint tea.
There was a debate a couple of pages ago about wrappers on packets. I have to state that all my long working life I've been a health care professional surrounded by people suffering from smoking, other lifestyle and sometimes sheer bad luck diseases and it has never put me off- no pictures on packets are going to help me - its part of a its not real to me, not happening to me or mine mindset that is slowly changing as I'm realistic to realise probably will happen to me

That's great stuff puddle! Keep it up.
There's a 50% chance of dying from smoking and a 100% chance it will effect your health, I know the figures alone aren't enough to make most people give up, but I don't think there is any harm in remembering the odds.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
That's great to hear Puddle, if the Champix is kicking in this early for you . . . it bodes well for your actual quit date.
We've a lovely member on our forum, who I'm sure won't mind me describing her as a ' die hard smoker ' . . . who has now been ciggie free for a month, using Champix. :T
I used to love a few glasses of wine at the weekend when I smoked, the two went together for me . . . since giving up tobacco, I've broken that little habit/ritual as well. It was important in the early days, for me, to break the smoking cycle.
Although almost 2 years on, I can now have a tipple without feeling I need to spark up as well . . . so it can be done!0 -
That's brilliant Puddle, sounds like you're in a good place and it's going to work well for you. There's a good few people quitting with Champix on here so you should get lots of feedback and shared experiences.
Nice one on your reduced cigarettes already though, that's brilliant!11th Heaven prizes Number 103

Yeah I too have heard great things re Champix but I can't take it...:(
Anyhow well done Puddle...you may not think you have achieved much but you have done...First steps and all that
I can't believe I've spent about £120 on goodies for the kenwood chef .....
And most of that was this week .....
Just transferred some money from easy access savings to current account so I can go buy some wool for my crochet....
On the positives...have reduced nic conc again (only 9 days though. last time was 12 days. Time before that about 3 weeks)...sure the nic thing is now psychological but still... Sure I could vape (e-cig) no nicotine and be satisfied LOL but after my falls with chemist NRT not willing to try it cos they were spectacular and there's no way I'm going back on the cigs

What this means to anyone unfamiliar with the terminology, is that Erme has reduced and is continuing to reduce the nicotine strength/concentration of the eliquid she is using in conjuction with her electronic cigarette.
It's a bit like going from a Capstan Full Strength down to a Silk Cut Extra Light . . . some Vapers in time, use only a zero nicotine strength eliquid, or indeed quit the ecig completely.
Which does go to show that the hand to mouth habit is as important to some smokers when they're giving up, as the nicotine replacement system they might choose to use.0 -
Sorry Erme but I just don't see what benefit that link has on here. I think we all know that smokers have become demonized but we're all stopping. I don't think it contributes anything at all personally. /baffled11th Heaven prizes Number 103
