When one first gives up cigs are constantly on your mind 24/7; but as time progresses they cease to be at the forefront of your mind; you just kind of 'get on with things' without the cigs as things still need dealing with day to day.

So I hope that is some encouragement for those just getting free- the concentration on smoking does subside and you'll find that the thoughts of cigs just melt into the background until they drift over the horizon and can no longer be seen.......

    Good luck all

    FDM

A fantastic post, FDM and if that doesn't spur folk on then I don't know what will!!! BTW, after being free for 9 whole weeks  whyever would you describe yourself as a newbie?! You're well into quitting now and certainly not a newbie!

What some amazing stats too!!!!! :T:T:TIsn't it marvellous when they're there before your eyes.

Very well done, FDM, you've been truly amazing all through. ;)

The above is yet another great quote which I found to sum up cravings, so please folk, remember webitha's experience and give it a go!

Hi webitha and great news about being on Day 2!!! The sore throat and cold-like symptoms are all part of stopping smoking for many folk, but it won't last long, yours either RainbowDreamer, sorry I forgot that last night! It's all to do with the body cleansing itself and the hairs growing back. Keep the water up, it'll also help you with the lethargy. You're doing marvellously!!!!! :T

Hi Erme and well done on your continued success! :T Whoever would have thought it at one time, but you had th willpower to prove how successful you can be!!! :T

    Sue x

Please everyone, look at the words above and the ways to tackle quitting, it's all doable if we don't just collapse in a heap and say I can't do this - because I'll be you anything - YOU CAN!!!!!!! Keep going and always stay strong!

  • still here, still hanging on. House-hunting is going very badly  nobody takes people on benefits around here, apart from dodgy areas which is what I am trying to get out of! I am a student going to one of the top 20 unis in England, getting a good degree to get a good job so I don't have to rely on benefits in the future, i'm not a jeremy kyle candidate...just frustrates me that I can't get anywhere nice :( Grr, rant over
I don't want to smoke though, I just want to poke people in the eyes. Progress :D

Hi Ali, never give up, you only need one day to be talking to the right person in the smallest of conversations and - who knows hoe lucky you could be. ;)

Meanwhile get yourself as any references as possible
, it's worth even asking the powers that be at Uni. Any past employers too, even if you were only working part time. It all adds weight to your character, which adds weight to your chances.

Let this drive you ahead with smoking and vice versa! :grinheart One of these days....... For now, don't allow the neighbours to grind you down, they do NOT deserve that right, you're just killing time with them.

All the very best and keep putting the feelers out. People who do rent may still say they don't to those on benefits in general, but once they see the odd lovely mum and LO who want to succeed, you'll have won them over. Keep cleaning your flat.

  • I haven't really been looking long, I am just impatient to be honest!!!! Got that whinge off my chest anyway, I'm sure I will find somewhere/ Viewing somewhere tomorrow, not sure about the area though...having said that, the area I live in now is a reasonable area, yet I absolutely hate it...Tough call, you never really know what somewhere is like until you live there, and then its too late lol. Ah well.
Haven't had a craving all day though which is good!!! I'm so very tired though, was all ready for an early night last night and small woke up poorly bless her, so was another late one last night. Just finishing off tidying up the tornado she has caused, dinners in the slow cooker. Got the man coming over tonight so nice relaxing evening in I think is on the cards :)
According to quit now I have saved nearly 25 quid already, can't believe I would have spent that on cigs already, If I said to myself I am going to spend 25/30 a week on something like magazines or something else that has no real worth to it, I would tell myself it's ridiculous and you can't afford to waste the money, so I don't understand why it's so much harder to think the same about cigarettes! (obvs the addiction plays a part!) but I still find it crazy that you can always find moneyfor cigarettes, even when skint

  • I'm still going strong :) sorry I'm not being very encouraging to other posters. I am not ignoring you intentionally. I have no laptop at present, so my replies are written on my mobile. I can't quote or read others posts while writing my reply :(

Day 5 is nearly over. Have used the quick mist spray a few times, but still better than smoking!
Started my keep fit dvd last night (6 pack in 6 weeks). Only managed half hour of it and 20 sit ups after.
I am hoping to do it daily, but my stomach and legs hurt so much from not being used to exercise, so having a day off.

Also been trying hard to up my calorie intake. As a busy single mum of 2 young boys and a smoker I've got used to skipping meals. Most days would go til 3pm or later before eating anything.
Going to get some protein shake to help up my intake along with good work outs.

Having another very early night tonight though. Felt exhausted this week.

Keep up the good work all you non-smokers. Your doing so well.

Fantastic news, RainbowDreamer!!!! :T So, with luck you'll now have 5 good days behind you, congratulations on that as it's a heck of an achievement and so much to be proud of!!! The exercise will be a huge bonus to you both physically and mentally and the exhausted feeling will soon be a thing of the past, though it is quite common after newly quitting. Not easy doing posts on mobiles for sure, though don't worry about anyone else or links for now, think of you and the kiddies - that's what counts, I promise you! You're doing marvellously, RD, stay strong and focus on a life free from chokers!

    Sue x

Keep it up everyone. One foot in front of the other gets you through each successful day - stay strong, you CAN do this!!!!

  • Just starting day 6. The kids go to dads for a few days, so I'm avoiding any alchohol until I can handle being around smokers.
Feeling very positive. Have been on anti depressants for 3 weeks now and gp told me not to worry about quitting smoking until I'd sorted that out. But I feel so good right now, asthough I could achieve anything.

Still not heard from uni, no one has. But unless they give me a no I'm remaining hopeful!

Well done again, RanbowDreamer. Fingers crossed for Uni! Wise decision about other smokers and alcohol, very wise indeed.

Sadly they wouldn't be able to as he died of cancer! :(

You are doing tremendously, webitha!!!! Yes, it's all down to that little book which has made you look at smoking and life without it in a wholly different way. Brilliant!!!! :D The throat will soon wear off you won't need to try getting one over on Eartha!!

Alan Carr may have died from smoking, but he left everyone else the chance to be freed from it, one heck of a legacy!!!!

Marvellous taj!!! Thank you so much for coming and telling your story, it gives folk the incentive and lets them know that it really is possible!

Many congratulations on having come such a very long way! The further along your journey you get you'll realise that the 'feelings' get far less and last far less.

    All best wishes!

    Sue x

Hi Erme, I'm glad you were able to get some fresh air. Just think one of these days WHEN you do get right down and don't need any help, you'll be able to save and save well.!!! :)

    Sue x

Okay no pressure there then Sue? I figure the slow horse wins the race and the race end really isn't on my radar right now and I don't want to be pressurised into dates etc for the race end. I know I'll get there but it could be year or two....So please no pressure hun :)

Well really the only hard part to date has been coming off the spray. Otherwise it's just been an exchange. And even coming off the spray wasn't that hard. Just upped my vaping from 1-2ml a day to 3ml. Sorted :D

Now I'm free of the spray. Don't even miss it. Get the odd killer craving but then just distract. My e-cig is more a friend right now and tastes sooo nice. I'm sure one day I could vape zero and with just the flavouring I'd be happy.

I'm just mega stressed right now and grumpy......

Everyone is stressing me out..(see my posts on Miggy's thread and also London Socialite)
