  • Blimey - the SilkQuit program tells me I've not smoked 350 fags since the start of the week (actually, I've not smoked about 300, as I still do have some), but that's incredible.
Funny how it goes - the past several days I've been a NS for the hours of bed and then into the early afternoon; I smoke a few in the afternoon and from 7pm until midnight I'm finding it easy to resist. I still have one or two before bed, but the numbers are on a downward slope. I get more patches for another month next week, and my GP is happy to prescribe them until I no longer need them - he takes the view that if it's working in some way, shape or form it's all to the good.

Thanks webitha and Sue - I've just ordered the Allen Carr book from Green Metropolis and look forward to reading that.

Thanks also Erme for the encouragement, it's helpful to know I won't get hooked on the throat hit. I know that there is an argument for going cold turkey and not taking any nicotine in any form, but it seems to me that the shock to my system on so many levels if I did that would diminish my chances of success. As it is, I'm nearing the end of day one and it hasn't been too bad at all. I've felt slightly "high" a cseparator.gifouple of times, maybe it's having more oxygen in my poor brain!

My daughter and I just had a little "19 hours" celebration dance in the kitchen!

Och wow...sounds so fun hun...Alas I have tank probs (easy sorted with about £3 max of o-rings on Monday/Tuesday - argh why wasn't P back from A sooner...could have saved me a tenner in new tanks LOL) so now getting the throat hit again...really weird I have to say LOL...though not as intense as before due to not using so much PG and just buying VG from the chemist (cheaper :))

Erme, there was absolutely no pressure there whatsoever, I promise you! I was simply stating the obvious as the cartridges and all that goes with it, costs you soooo much. The last highlighted comment of yours says a lot to my mind, but be sure, you'll never get any pressure from me, Erme, you carry on in your own sweet way, I'm only here to encourage and be helpful IF needed - you just be happy!

Well I was grumpy from not eating etc and other stuff. Nothing to do with nic. I only like 400 cals on Friday. Don't know how many I had yesterday. Didn't count :)

I saw my e-cig friend tonight at the pub (we were vaping quite happily in the pub) who saw my tank probs...(put juice in one end - come straight out the other end LOL..what a waste of juice tee hee) and said I needed o-rings - so a girlie trip to the north of the city on Monday/Tuesday to blag o-rings (well maybe buy them. I think I need about 4 and they're pennies. Like about 50p each) and try and figure out how to fit them. I think it's just a question of putting them on with pliers. I don't know. I am not worried about getting the o-rings (seals) - I'm just worried about fitting them...

Having just forked out about £11 on new tanks I'm annoyed. I wish P had been around sooner to advise me. He's been vaping about 3 years plus and is so knowledgable and has no intention of coming off the e-cig anytime soon :D. I'd personally just rather not be dependant on nic but that's just me :)

So yeah - quantities/ml - no idea due to leaks. Need to wash out the tank though but still. New tanks should be here mid week DV and if I get the o-rings Monday I'll be back in full business by the pm....

However...in the mean time I have to top up loads with the bottle (like before) but still.

And I've seen some gorgeous 18650 mods from a site (where I'm getting my new tanks from) in the US. Just a bit concerned about customs and they are $25 each. But sooo tempting for a spare 18650 mod..... they are sooo girlie - purple with paw prints on :T

Maybe end of the month or next month I will order. Need a spare 18650 mod anyways....

Hi Nick and welcome to the thread, and hopefully, to quitting smoking for good. Nothing's pathetic about the feelings ALL of us have to justify keeping on smoking; we've all done the same things you have, but it's not because of being pathetic, it's because of

    A) the power nicotine has over us and
    B) the fact that it appears to be like our friend as there isn't much we've done in our smoking lives that hasn't been done without lighting up first before doing a job, making a phone call, just before meeting someone (oh how we stank)! So many things we though were unable to be carried through without a white stick. Ironic that we're able to see yet have been reliant on white sticks to "get through each day". We hold those blessed things in far too great esteem!

I know you've been thinking mostly about the price of fags and wishing to stop for that, but our finances vary through life so much so if we only stop for that reason then there's always a risk of going back when things get better. Try to forget all about cost and think mainly of your health, after all it was that which frightened you when you had the cramps at the gym! Nick, you're so young, please try to give it all up now while you have your health, don't wait until things such as chest infections (usually the first to strike), bronchitis, emphysema, pneumonia, cancer and so many other cancer related illnesses threaten you - or worse still - arrive at the doorstep! Go forward NOW, Nick and please don't look back! Get your health back to where it should be, then keep up with all the exercise you're doing as that will keep your lungs expanded - we all lose the elasticity of our lungs from age 30 on! So if you keep exercising (especially with spinning etc!) then you'll keep them much as they are now..or shall we say should be!!

There is so much on this thread as well as the two prior ones and so many folk have managed to give it all up for good with the aid of these threads, add yourself to the list of those that no longer wanted to be slaves to it. We've had so much success with Alan Carr's books and CD's, so even if you quit using patches, get yourself a copy of the book to encourage you as you go along, so you hear his words and the times you may need them - possibly after all the patches have finished!

Think of ALL the reasons why you don't want to smoke anymore, then think of all the BAD things about smoking - you DON'T want them so, taken a day at a time and the Quitters Pledge will see you through
    Quitters Pledge

"I'm NOT going to smoke any cigarettes today, but if I wish, I may smoke tomorrow" Then repeat the pledge every day until it's lodged in your brain and mind.
All very best wishes, Nick and please, even if you don't succeed this time, don't stop trying to! BTW, men find it far easier than we women..hormones etc!

    Sue x

webitha - that is wonderful news, but do be very, very careful as we're most vulnerable when alcohol messes with the mind, apart from that we don't always know what we've done if we let things go to far drink wise, so be very wary! Aside from that, you've done terrifically so far so battle on and you'll get there!!!

    Sue

Best wishes to ALL our quitters and to those lurking, you've nothing to lose by having a go...but you've so much to gain, especially if YOU conquer IT!!! ;)

  • Afternoon all. I am still house hunting after a friend in the know told me the hosue I was looking at is next to a guy who has just come out of prison for a huge drugs haul...who is also married to a well known...how can i put it delicately...not so polite person, so I have gone off that. But i am still looking, waiting for tomorrow so i can pester some more estate agents :). No cigs, was doing really well until a few mins ago when the craving hit. I have an inhaler but I am very hit and miss with using it, I don't think I have used it since Friday and that was just for a couple of puffs. Not sure whether to just forget it and try going cold turkey or leave it hanging around so I can get the nic hit if needed?! I don't know. I do know, though, that I am still absolutely shattered all the time. Sleeping is tough too, although i don't think that can be the not smoking cos I am not really using nic replacement so it shouldn't mess that up should it? Who knows, all I know is I spend far too much time laying in the dark willing sleep to happen lol. I have a huge essay to write for uni in the next 2 weeks, I have a big ol pile of books sitting in the corner of the room tutting at me for not reading them, I suppose I should crack on with that really. Maybe tomorrow....

  • Day 7 is almost over! Have had 2 beers today and sat watching football. Normally would make me want to smoke majorly.
I haven't had a single craving today. Haven't used my spray for 24hrs so trying to continue cold turkey.

Not sure if this is allowed (feel free to shout at me if its not), but I have various nrt products that I will not use.
Am I allowed to offer to post it to anyone who is using that nrt product to save them money?

I have the mini Mints, the lozengers, fruit gum, inhalators etc.

How are we all getting on today?

    Hi all,

Day 2 here - almost 45 hours in! I read in a few places that the first 72 hours can be the hardest, so am using that as my first big milestone - hence the counting hours!

Am still absolutely resolute and so thrilled with what I've achieved so far. Today has been a little tougher than yesterday, but still not too bad at all. I read somewhere (have been reading a lot!) that not only is each person's "quit" different from other people's, but a person who has tried to quit at various times can find each of their own "quits" different from the others. This is probably the third or fourth serious "quit" for me in the last 26 years, and it has been nowhere near as bad as any of the others so far. I was seriously dreading the first few days based on past experience, but have been surprised at how manageable it is. Perhaps it's just that I've turned into a tougher old bird now.

There are some physical things happening - lets just say there is some post-nasal clearance and a cough which is not just the ineffective smoker's one, but actually feels like it is moving "stuff".

Keep up the good work everyone! For those thinking of quitting - just do it! We can do it, we are doing it! Stay strong.

Nope this not sleeping and everything you describe is nic withdrawal. I promise you :)... I don't know how long it will last for (varies from person to person)...you might find it helpful to use a bit more inhalator or something....just for the pull your hair out moments? If this is the last thing you want to hear sorry hun. Hugs. But I know what nicotine withdrawal can do..... It can wreck with your brain. Hence I'm on the e-cig...:D

You are so right. I'm still grumpy. Hoping it's just hormones. sue e-cig costs about £10-15 a week max :)...Cigs used to cost nearer £50. To me that's MSE :) I try and keep it's costs as low as possible. I'm a moderate vaper (about 3ml a day)....I'm happy with it and not in the mood to be told it's expensive. I wouldn't get the same nic levels as I get now (and I've just reduced this am) on Rx NRT and I'd get sick. If I paid for the NRT myself it'd be even MORE expensive. Chemist bought NRT is WAY more expensive than e-cig ...worth considering for folk who want to do it slowly.

Think I should really be reducing every 3-4 weeks (suits me best) but still...it's only 2 weeks so hoping it's okay. Back on my favourite of black cherry :)...yummy :)

Woo, well done, you are doing really well!!!
I am also finding this quit different. Wihle i wouldn't say it's been "easy" exactly, compared to some of my other attempts it's been an absolute breeze. I know I haven't hit any tough parts yet though, I am mostly holed up in the house currently so haven't really had to test my daily activities without a cig. It's my birthday this week and i am out on Friday, which is going to be a real test because it's where I always fail, when alcohol is involved. I am going to have a drink one night this week, I'm not a big drinker at all in general but when I do go out I tend to have far too much. Will have my inhaler and hope for the best. Not feeling very confident about it, I know I CAN do it, because I have quit before and not smoked, but it was after a lot longer being quit. Can't really postpone my birthday though lol. Oh well, I CAN and WILL do it, just have to keep telling myself that!
Think today is day 9, still sleep deprived not helped by the littlun waking up every hour on the hour last night yaaaaaawn! Not quite so stressed or grumpy but I still wouldn't describe myself as a ray of sunshine, defo getting better though
