    Hi all,

This is my second day. I am sort of thinking I can do it which I have never felt before.

I have the podcasts - am on week one atm and think the music on it is pretty fab - it kept me going put it that way.

Am aching really bad today so definitely need a couple of days rest before I go again.

But trying to get to sleep last night - NIGHTMARE. Took ages to get to sleep, woke up every hour until I got up. I am hoping that when I get to sleep tonight my nicotine receptors will sort have dulled a bit from last night.

Good luck to everybody and it sounds like everyone is doing really well, with every possible situation thrown at you. Birds, knitting, kids, cats. If you can deal with that fag free then you are away.

    x

Yeah glad you like the podcasts...I've had a really bad few weeks and so been back on the weed....but now off it again (almost one day) so doing C25K this pm DV.......

Glad your sleep is improving as well....when I get sick I get really sick mentally....so I guess I have to come to terms with the fact that for the next year or so I may always smoke when I'm at my most unwell...but as soon as I'm better I'm back on the e-cig....

Woooo 3 weeks today :) Am a bit apprehensive about tonight but am determined not to smoke!!! My bank balance is loving me not smoking :) Am very proud of my little jumper hehe, will see if i can get a pic on here, what you can do to keep your hands busy lol!
Found the last 24 hours a bit tougher than usual, but nothing that was overwhelming, just thinking about smoking more than i have been
oh and next up for my knitting project either another cardi or something for holly or i may brave making myself something to wear to knock around the house in, don't think i would trust my skills to make something i would wanna wear out the house, holly's ok she is only 2 she looks cute in handknitted stuff lol

Have you tried http://www.ravelry.com for patterns hun? I got this fab tight tank top that I made the other month off there :)...so glad you are enjoying the knitting...

I've finished my baby sleeping bags (if I can find all the bits) and they will need an air to get rid of the tobacco smell before the first baby pops out in a few weeks. Also crocheted some gorgeous Mary Jane baby booties in an hour the other day.....

Now onto socks for Ma for xmas.....

Thanks for all your support Sue...am contemplating just vaping glycerine, vodka and some flavourings for a few days no nic...keep thinking about it but not had the courage to go for it.....Hmmm...one day hun....one day...... But I can see how it could work....

So yeah...I had mega bad anxiety for the last week or so so I smoked but I didn't budget for it :(....so now I'm going to budget for cigs just in case then save the money at the end of the week :)

But noticed after a few days when I was smoking how horrid things tasted...believe me crisps taste so much better when you're a non smoker....

I missed that so went back on the e-cig yesterday :D

Anyhow I'm fine now - but got Pdoc at 11.45 so best skoot...

    Day 16 - cold turkey

Look at me - 16 days - bloody hell! Would still have a fag if pushed I reckon - havent got to the stage where I find them revolting.

Well done everyone from quitting altogether to cutting down.

Bit depressing that lungs aren't so good after 30 - I am 41!

Erme - good luck with c25k - I am sticking with week 2 for now as my knees are giving me HELL. Got them checked and i havent damaged them - I am just so unfit (always have been) that my body is WAY below what is assumed as a starting point on the NHS website. So I am limping along hoping that my knee will stop hurting.

But my lungs are fab, my leg muscles are fab - I havent put on any weight (yet) and I DONT SMOKE. Life is good.

Went for my jog...it wasn't good....head started playing up jog 2....:(...then about jog 5 the heavens opened...some eejit just had a white t-shirt and jogging skirt and leggings on...believe me the look was not positive....

So I come home and try and get in the lift - only about 20 other people had the same idea at the same time and there's only one lift working right now....decided to chance the stairs...Almost gave up at floor 7 - don't know how I made it up here....

But now I know I can do the stairs I will take them more often...save hassling about with the lift and I will help me lose the weight...:D

And despite all that stress I've still not smoked....:).....Just don't want to open that last pouch of tobacco unless I'm verging on psych unit sick.........that's the rule....I'm sticking by it.....:)

So yeah sitting here not feeling fab...too scared of the doom and gloom that is the WS to even put that on yet refusing to smoke...

In fact so pleased with my progress past day or two on e-cig have ordered a new one....a really posh one that should cost £160 but I have found going for £50 inc P+P (for the techies it's a VV...variable voltage - or did I say that just to confuse sue lol)....

So yeah....more vape to the Erme....

Ok team, it's time for me to go "public" on here again with yet another attempt at quitting.

Sue-UU, you may (or most probably) may not remember me from a few years ago. Well still been lurking around but not posting as much since hitting the big DEBT FREE moment.
I have tried a few times to quit or stop or give up. This time I am choosing not to smoke. In February I was struck ill with one of the usual chest infections which persist in visiting at that time of year, however, this one was different. I could feel it descending and thought I my pre-emptive strike had avoided any major discomfort but how wrong I was. within two days I was taking my first sickness absence for six years and was promtly down the local hospital with a chest that was in vice like pain which my GP had diagnosed as a possible collapsed lung. Turned out to be Pleurasy (or however you spell it).

Since that day, Feb 26th 2011, I have not chosen to smoke. I choose to resist temptation and I choose to resist ( at the start) THE CRAVINGS.

I am married with 4 beautiful daughters, these five people mean the world to me and I want to be around for as long as possible to have them in my life. I choose them. I choose not to actually have collapsed lungs next winter!

The first bonus is my wife has just passed 7 weeks, so well on her way to a nicotine-free life too! A smoke free ome can only be a good thing for the family for years to come. the second bonus is I have put on three stonnes. Yes it is quite a lot but I was a 32yo man who weighed 9st, so look and feel a lot better about myself too and a couple more stonnes won't hurt either, I could carry it well!

So all in all, I have just passed the six month mark, cold turkey with no aids, advice, NHS visits, counters or relapses (not even one little toke). My first target is a year, reason being is I have QUIT before and only reached about the six monthmark. This time, however, it is for real and feel I can share with you all my confidence and that it can be done. I will always have to choosenot to smoke, but the choice, as long as you remember your reasons, it gets easier with time.
Was in debt £23k- Not now (12/07-12/10):T
Did smoke- Not any more (26-02-11):j

Hi everyone, it looks as though it's been a great weekend for you all and I'm as pleased with you all as you are with yourselves! :)

Sorry caracara, I'm obviously mixing you up with one of the others, but I know someone was taking advantage of free gym time given by their works. Brilliant news at you having gone CT for 4 weeks!!!!! Congratulations caracara!!! :T:T You really have done extremely well. We're having so much success on here at the moment, it really is terrific.

Good to hear your teeth are ok now and I love the fact that you're taking care of your nails now, especially as you've been a nibbler. It's always satisfying to watch them improve, and filing off the 'orrible bits is quite therapeutic, keep at it as it's another thing to 'chalk' up that came as a result of stopping! When they've grown nicely treat yourself to some varnish. Darned if I can identify with any fascination with pickled onions and beetroot - only when pregnant with my DD...as for beetroot....I detest the stuff, it makes me squirm!!!! :o

    Sue xx

Ahh, good to see you again, Erme! I'd been a little concerned after you hadn't been on for over a week so it's good to know all is well. You'd consider vaping with glycerin and vodka??!!!!! Blowed if I can imagine what that's like, so I won't try! Keep up with the stairs if you can, it'll do your lungs a power of good. :j Well done on the knitting and crocheting, very relaxing and very beneficial to many little ones. :A

    Sue xx

It sounds as though work will be a good thing for you, gizmo, it certainly helps us with focusing. It's good to hear you're so very determined never to smoke again. Tell me gizmo, have you found the hypnotherapy to really work for you? I'm interested to see how you get on. Battle on gizmo, you know now that you CAN do it. ;)

VERY good indeed, warez!!! You sound both shocked and thrilled that you should get that far. I remember having both feelings too, also I knew from there on that, that was it, no going back at all!! Don't get concerned about the lungs losing capacity from 30 onwards. When you think of kiddies and how they are always on the go, then through teens it's pretty much the same for many of us. Think also that a lot of sports folk slow down after their 30's, it's the natural way of things. Don't worry though, it's not as though they're going to POP all of a sudden, we just need to keep them working as much as is possible, especially after being smokers, what could be better. This (your last line) is the one to focus on " But my lungs are fab, my leg muscles are fab - I havent put on any weight (yet) and I DONT SMOKE. Life is good." I LOVE it! :D

    Sue xx

Hello again shadydaz!!! :hello:Oh, I remember you all right, though I thought you'd long since quit of course! When I saw your name I first thought you were starting at Day 1, but it's such marvellous news to see you've stopped since February!! Many congratulations shadydaz, you truly deserve it after 6 months!!!!:T:T:T Isn't it good that so many of us take the chance thrown at us by 'choosing not to smoke' after we have a health scare or a rotten illness such as you with pleurisy. That must have been awful...though maybe 'sent' to jog your mind into stopping mode.

It sounds as though you've got a wonderful family who must be so very proud of you and I love your reasons for wanting to stay alive and well. Far better to have reasons such as yours than financial ones; it always concerns me when folk say they're stopping because of cash problems. Will they get tempted to smoke again when they're better off?!!! :( Health reasons are the best ones to keep us focused, even more so if it's doing so for loved ones sakes. Incidentally, you're not the first person to have got really happy at having put weight on; let's face it most of us don't eat half what we should do when we smoke so it's so natural to at least put a bit of weight on. Well done shadydaz and all the best for a healthy life and lungs! Please let us know how your're going, please!

Sue xx [Edit] Have just seen your signature, shady. WOW! You've done amazingly in clearing all that debt!!! Congratulations again!!!!

Very well done everyone, stay as strong now as you've been so far and you'll remain so very proud of yourselves.

    Thanks sue...

The alcohol is just to dilute the glycerine cos it gets too gloopy if you just have it neat.....

I had a really bad night and had a few (not many) and then I went and ordered the new e-cig (the vv)...whoops....

Budget going to be very tight for the next month ...if I am to pay ANYTHING off my overdraft....

Only bit of good news is that next month is a two payment month cos the loan comes out monthly and like I get paid four weekly....:)

So next month I'll have a whopping £136.96 to fling at OD guaranteed :)

So here is to not smoking (or smoking very little) today :)

The amount of accessories I have got on my quest to give up is now quite ridiculous. I have sleep easy radox, Yogitea bedtime and have now added chewable vitamin c tablets which are supposed to help cravings. Every little helps!

You sound a lot like me Warez, at one stage I couldn't have enough weapons, but if it gets you through another day of not smoking, it's all good.

And like I'm really bloated this pm so doing day one of c25k later...

And then I will do http://www.sparkpeople.com to lose the weight :)

And this my dear has been me for the last two weeks, after I woke up on a Monday morning two weeks back, suddenly feeling so bloated and sluggish. I could physically feel the fat and bits wobbling about that I had never noticed before. It seems suddenly that one extra ounce tipped me over the edge from what seemed like a comfortable weight to suddenly feeling fat. It was really strange and I struggled through the whole day feeling horrid and really conscious of how my clothes fitted and felt.

The stark reality is, I have gained 9 pounds of weight since I quit smoking. and been kidding myself somewhat that a few extra pounds was fine; whilst loafing around indoors through the winter months eating all the puddings and pies.

Hence, I have been all consumed this past 10 days or so watching and recording every move and every mouthful and no time to come on here.

I did my first session of C25K at home on Sunday afternoon, too ashamed to take to the streets I ran around the house, garden and garage (in my slippers) and did okay I thought; I did at least manage to keep going for the full 20 minutes.

However, tonight for the second session I went out for real, in my jogging pants and trainers, i-pod on and down to the beach. Really it wasn't a good look, there seemed to be every weird guy that ever lived hanging around and I struggled after the third run. After that I felt utterly embarrassed for anyone who might see me attempt any more of the runs, so I gave up after the fourth and walked the rest of the time.

I know we can't run before we can walk, so I don't actually care if I have to stay on week one for six weeks. I guess those four minutes of running is better than doing nothing and like all things, if we stick at them they do get easier.

Tell me Erme, do you vape using the alcohol and glycerine as well as the n? I've only put the initial letter out of respect for those who've ceased..if you're with me.

I still can't quite work it all out and can't imagine actually doing it, but there you go. Please don't try and explain it all again, you know it's a complete waste of your time with a dunderhead to get it over to :undecided, I promise you. Good luck with the budgeting!

You've got it exactly right there, Kiwi, don't let other folk worry you....who knows what size they were when they started off. Mr & Mrs Weeble maybe! :D At least 9Lbs gain isn't too bad and you should soon be able to shift it if you keep at it. Keep a diary of what you eat and excerise done and you'll definitely become as your signature suggests!!! :j I haven't a clue what Olympic Contender means but will have to check it out.

I wondered where you'd got to, good to see yo back and having been 7 months 3 weeks (and a bit ;)) away from smoking. Wonderful news, Kiwi.
