Thanks for that explanation, warez, and..........all being well.....congratulations on TWO weeks of freedom from fags!!!!! :T:T:T BTW, it's amazing to hear how well the lungs are going. Keep working on them, warez as from the age of 30 they cease to work (expand) as well (for us all).....unless we work them! So, do the running and a bit of :j and they'll be gaining so much.....and so will YOU!!!

    You're doing fantastically!!!!!

    Sue xx

Is it ok to post if I have fallen off :(

[STRIKE]I know this seems a negative post[/STRIKE] but I am sort of pleased of the small progress I did make :undecided
    Jen x

Hiya Jen and very well done indeed!!! :T Of course it's ok to post, no matter what happens!! It's when people don't post that I worry as I'm always wondering how they're doing (like you all that time ago!;)).

So that deals with the top bit I've quoted above.

With regards to the 2nd bit that I've put a line through: I've done so as it is NOT a negative post! Anything but in fact, as you've had great success with the work days and evenings which is wonderful! If you're testing yourself and this way seems the best for you for now then why should it be termed as "stupid"?? Any success is exactly that, Jen so please be chuffed to bits with all the fags you DON'T smoke as it's fantastic!!!! :D

Try hard to keep to your plan of none in work days (obviously) and none in the work day evenings, then see how you feel next weekend and go from there.

I did similarly to you when I first started t stop, I cut right down to 2 which I had late in the evening; thn I thought it seemed ridiculous and on Christmas Day 1998 I didn't have them and from then on.....I stopped! :j However, for me, I don't think I'd have found it quite so easy if I hadn't cut right down to the 2. So, we all have to do what we know/feel is best for us. if little by little sounds good to you, Jen then.......why not!!!

I hope work went very well for you and you're enjoying it so far. :)

Well done Jen, you're doing GREAT!!!!! :D

    Love, Sue xxx

Hi gizmo, your D-I-L is so lucky with smoking when he wants and stopping the same way, my Uncle was the same, my Mum too, though she did normally smoke quite a bit and if they were free! She finally gave it up so easily, some folk are just not dependent on them as many of us THINK we are! .

You have done marvellously and with luck it's now 8 Days since you stopped - very well done for you!!!!! :T:T

The ravenous thirst might just be your body's way of dealing with stopping; to be safe though, have a word with your Pharmacist..or Dr and see what they think and make sure it isn't the onset of diabetes. How much do you normally drink a day? For now keep feeding the thirst with the water your body needs. Its good to drink as much water as possible when we stop smoking to

a/ 'flush' yourself of a lot of the toxins.
b/ it fills us up so we don't snack so much
c/ it really does reduce the cravings of the first 3 days...or what we percieve to be cravings after the 3 days - unless we use NRTs.

Hi greenfingers, and a warm welcome. Yes we have had one or two successes with hypnotherapy, but is there a reason you're also using patches?? To be honest, the girls using hypnotherapy only used that and no NRTs. Surely what you believe to be psycological cravings are nicotine cravings.

Correct me if I'm wrong please, but it's my understanding that the idea of hypnotherapy is to stop the cravings by therpy alone?

Therefore, I'm wondering if you would NOT be having the cravings if you weren't on patches; the patches keep feeding nicotine into the body so, to my mind, it's only natural you're still going to crave (a bit at least) until you stop using them. A couple of questions:

Did someone advise the use of both??
Were the craving worse/better when you were on the stronger patches?

Having said all that, you seem to have had a long run of success and almost 10 weeks free from fags is marvellous and obviously more than you've experienced before so I'm loathe to advise leaving the patches off in case it knocks you off balance, but a little part of me wonders if you'd still be as good..or better if you were only stopping by hypnotherapy alone. I'm a little confused, greenfingers, can you help me with this please? :) Meanwhile, very well done as no fags is splendid news!!! :T:T

You're welcome to PM me, think about the above and see what you think. Also what did the Therapist advise?

    All best wishes, Sue xx

According to the silkquit meter I have not smoked 210 cigs and and not spent £59.60 - now thats worth it!

I too am a little confused with the patches and the hynotherapy - I chose hypno so that I could come straight off the nicotine, it was never ever suggested that I used a NRT as well.

I think some of the thirst is because I have been cleaning my teeth a lot as I hate smoking with a minty mouth but of course all that scrubbing can make you a little thirsty.

  • Hi sue. To answer your queries - my hynotherapy session was to reinforce in my subconcious mind my reasons/motivation for quitting. I chose patches as the quit method. I knew from previous experience I could talk myself into just one ciggie to easily so the hypno really helped with this. I was awake during the session but with an altered level of conciousness and my therapist did not use any aversion techniques at all, simply some strong images for me to latch onto when craves hit. Cravings going into month 3 are not a 'real' desire to smoke more of my mind remembering me as a smoker. So easier to get through them but so annoying getting them now. I know I will never smoke again, I don't want too, so hopefully they will stop soon. Hypnotherapy for me was not a 'complete fix' to quitting smoking, just another powerful tool I can call onduring the quitting experience.
Finally debt free - August 2010
Thankyou Payplan and DFW forum. Total debt repaid: £24,453. Still debt free and planning to stay that way!:j

But that is hypnotherapy altering the subconcious to give up. I've never heard of anyone using a NRT as well.

Thanks a lot for that explanation, greenfingers, and if it works for you then I'd never knock it.

It's good to read the sentence "I know I will never smoke again", that is great news. All the best with the cravings gradually diminishing til they're no more.

Thanks again and good for you with stopping.

I know exactly what you mean, gizmo, but if it works for greenfingers then that's all that matters.

We'll let her quietly go about her quit as, being individuals some things work for others so differently that the rest of us can't fathom, the fact that she does, is all that matters.

Good for you for caring though! ;)

All the best for you too! BTW "According to the silkquit meter I have not smoked 210 cigs and and not spent £59.60 - now thats worth it!" is tremendous news!!!! :T:T
