Three weeks, 20 hours, 49 minutes and 27 seconds. 437 cigarettes not smoked, saving £108.68. Life saved: 1 day, 12 hours, 25 minutes.

I am still hanging in there :) I must admit to having one drag of a friends last week. I was at a Uni interview and went out with her for a smoke. I had a drag and it was disgusting !!! I did help that she smokes ordinary fags and I only smoked menthol. I was really pleased that I hated it :)

I have been in hospital with my DD17 for the last 3 days. She was diagnosed with Type I diabetes. I didn't bother taking my patches because I didn't know we would be staying in more than a couple of hours. I lasted all one day and night without them but had them brought in to me the next day :) no cravings though :D

I remember all the other times i have been in hospital with my girls for one reason or another and having to nip downstairs and leave them every hour or so to have a smoke. It seems horrible now :(

    Well done to everyone :T:T
  • Today I signed up to my local chemists stop smoking scheme.

Saving a deposit to buy my first flat and could sure do with £5.33 a day going towards it.

I start on Monday so two more days of smoking it up and thats it (i hope)

Thats awesome!:j:T:j £5.33 per day is definately a good motivator especially when you are saving up for something so exciting! Do you have any other motivators as well? My partner and I quit smoking 1 week 1 day 11 hours ago and have saved £62.50 already - and although it has been tough at times its lovely to smell your hands being all fresh and soapy...not smokey!

Best of luck for monday, are you using any NRT/champix/zyban or are you going cold turkey? Either way keep the enthusiasm up and keep posting here! :T

    Thanks loads.

Im on the patches which iv had some success with in the past but not the motivation that I do at the moment.

My girlfriend hates me smoking and so after 2 and a half years together I doing it for her as much as me.

You planned anything for you sixty odd to go towards ?

Its great to do it for her as well, but make sure its firm in your mind that its also for you! Because I'm sure you remember those moments when you want to blame everyone else for the harder times of quitting...I had to keep reminding myself that it was my own choice to be doing this! Sounds like your girlfriend will really support you in this :)

I hope you find the stop smoking service helpful. After a previous quit attempt you know what your up against but this time you sound prepared and motivated! Yay!

I'm using patches too, and whilst I'd rather go cold turkey I think they have really helped. Are you having the 24hr ones or the 16hr ones?

As regards to money we are going on our first holiday in a long long time early April so hope to allocate some of it as spending money, maybe a few weeks worth. After that its all gotta go on living costs :D Stupid "current economic climate"!

I'm sure some of the more experienced quitters will be along to arm you with all the extra tools that can help you quit soon!

  • Hi everyone

I have been sent here for some support :)

I have been smoking for too long, 20 years in fact and most recently I have been smoking A LOT. I hate myself for it.

This morning I was woken up with pains in my chest and it feels really tight. Enough is enough, I have suddenly realised what it is doing to my health and I feel really SCARED. I am going cold turkey, I can do this, I just need to get out of the habit.

    Thanks for listening x

Hiya Lucy! Sounds like this is your lightbulb moment!!!! :j:T:j Congratulations!

Have you stopped cold turkey as of now or have you set a quit date? How many have you been smoking per day?

I'm a new non smoker myself (1 week 2 days) so welcome to the club! And you most certainly can do it!!! Especially with both health and money as motivators.

Although it sounds obvious, I'd feel awful if I didn't recommend you seeing a doctor RE your chest pains.:o With something like that it is ALWAYS better safe than sorry.

Well done you for posting and please keep us updated :D:beer:

Yes I stopped as soon as I woke up, I had my last cig around midnight. My chest does feel really tight but I know it's because I smoked at least 15 cigs last night and I hate myself for it. I have been smoking nearly 20 per day recently because I have been feeling depressed over a break up but I really want to stop. It is costing me so much and to be honest I am too scared to die of lung cancer. Thanks for your support, how long did you smoke and how many a day? Any good tips?

PS You wont believe this but I work out 4 times a week at the gym so I have no idea where I have been getting my strength from!

Well hello all! Very nice to see everyone is doing so well!
Im sorry Ive not been around much, however - bigger fish to fry in the form of my stunning daughter who arrived on valentines day. She weighed 5lbs 15oz and we named her Elsie Ann. She is beautiful and we/re very happy.
On the smoking front - I still think about smoking, but 1) no where near wanting one and 2) far too busy for it to last!
Hope everyone is well, and I will update signature and avatar with a pic soon ;)

    Sally x

    Congratulations Sally and Daddy!
How lovely to read of Elsie Ann's arrival. Yes, you will be very busy with your gorgeous girl, but try to rest as much as you can too and enjoy every moment!

(I bet if someone came into your house smoking you'd not want them anywhere near Elsie Ann!)
