just signed up to sky, slow internet!

From your stats you are either on DLM, are you within the first 10 days of your contract, or you have had your speed capped.
Maybe your line was noisy.
The router should be syncing at around 7 db (noise margin) with your line attenuation of 34db your line should be able to handle over 10Mbps.
I'd get on to Sky and request they reprofile your line.
is it possible it might take them more than 10 days to sort it out as it's been over a couple of public holidays?
my internet was activated on the 23rd of december, the router came on the 22nd and i plugged it in straight away but it never worked (as expected) and then on the evening of the 22nd I noticed the light on the front of the router change to green so i went on the web and it worked, was fast, and went to speedtest.net and it was about 4.75 DL and 0.4 UL which i was happly with. then it cut off and didn't work untill the afternoon of the 23rd, and the speeds have been much slower ever since.
what do you mean maybe my line was noisy?0 -
I mean crackle pops and hissing on the line, do a BT quiet line test to check.
Dial 17070 and follow the prompts.
DLM if implemented on BTs broadband would be automatic.
As spike says you need to get on to Sky.That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
ah, another point:
since you mentioned DLM, i googled it and found this rather interesting post here
after about 3 days i decided to rule out the wiring from the master socket to the slave socket where my router was plugged in, so i disconnected it, and re-connected it at the master. also, since then i have probably re-booted it a few times trying to get all my wireless devices to be able to connect at the same time.
so is it possible i have delayed this "DLM" process and should give it another couple of days? it's been plugged in and left for at least 5 days now...0 -

i've done a quiet line test check, it certainly was not silent, a small amount of crackling, but to be honest i have nothing to compare it too?0 -
I'm tier 1. you tier 2 guys never sound happyYou're on the 'Offnet' Connect package which uses BT's own equipment to give you broadband & not Sky's own.The service provided on the Connect package is often dire. When I worked in Sky's Broadband Tier2,we had more faults for this product than the others.
You'll need to go onto www.samknows.com to see what is available in your exchange. It's also an idea to look at the link below to fing what speed your line can handle.
http://www.btwholesale.com/pages/static/Community/Broadband_Community/Coverage/ADSL_Availibility_Checker.html#
but anyway to the OP, for a connect package, 3mb isnt shockingly bad, sorry to say. but there will be little sky can do about it, and its still cheaper than what BT will charge you for internet access.0 -
Unless DLM was underway then no, and it is quicker than you think.fenwick458 wrote: »ah, another point:

It could be something as silly as not having a microfilter in an extension socket that has a phone plugged into it as well. Get onto Sky about it and see what they can do about the slow speed, but theres not a lot Sky can do about connect packages, they only sell the package, theyve little to no say over bt exchanges, its pretty much a case of "can't be arsed mate" by BT.0 -

Sorry, that was squarely aimed at Tier 1 in Lipa,Philippines.
They were/are useless beyond belief & created no end of problems with their lies on fault tickets, inability to do their own job...
One of the reasons I left!0 -
OP posted their routerstats in post #7
OP's noise margin is 14db, and he is syncing at around 3mbps or so, this is clearly not the best the line can do.
A router will try to sync with a noise margin around 7db,with a significant increase in download speed.
The line has either been capped, or DLM is in progress, in either event it should be sorted by Sky.
Regarding the quiet line test, it should be free of crackles pops and hisses. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
i have just re-done a quiet line test from the test socket, and it's all gone quiet.
i tested the speed from the test socket a few days ago and it was no different, so i just assumed it was all ok and reconnected it, and since then have just been plugged into the master socket.
so i need to get in touch with sky now and get them to re-profile the line, because when the DLM was first done it was a noisy line and as a result i am gettin slow internet? have i got that right?0 -
That's a good working hypothesis, best of luck with customer support.
BTW I've found them very helpful of late. That gum you like is coming back in style.0
