  • hey hun,

Well done you with paying off that amount on your mortgage, amazing!

My girlies came home from school tonight and insisted i sort through the leftover christmas goodies to take with them tomorrow, needless to say i was kinda interested as to why chocolate was flying out of cupboards into a carrier, - DD1 told me one of the infant's teachers partner is posted in Afghanistan and she has got the whole school involved with sending out everyone's leftover christmas lovelies- i thought of you and your son when they told me, what a credit he must be to you and so brave for someone so young. How you describe your whole family sounds lovely ( 4 children arrrrghh, i can barely keep up with 2, and i completely understand how the problems get bigger the older they get, you have the experience of your children become adults - i've still got that fun yet to come, and the teenage years (NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!).

Hope the decorating is going well.

    xx

I'm sure your letters are great sidneysmum!

I got some great finds at the charity shop today. A lovely thick woolie cardie to replace some of those lost to the moths even though I'd had them for years! A lovely top and a pair of jeans that fitted so nicely and looked like new! I am only buying clothe from charity shops and ebay this year. Preferably charity shops so I can try them on. I refuse to pay over five pounds an item. So far I have got some great finds.

  • Trixiepix - Thank you soo much for your lovely comments about my family. I`ve got to admit that its not been easy for some of the time but I love them all to pieces. They get a lot from myself and sidneysdad now (we couldnt do a lot when they were little as we had not a bean to our name) but they appreciate what we do to help them which makes it all worthwhile. Your girls sound lovely and kind sending goodies to the troops. What ages are they? x

rubytuesday - Great to hear from you. I love charity shops and ebay. However I do think that some charity shops nowadays can charge far too much for some items. A shop near us charges more for a tatty paperback book than you can pay at Mr T`s for a new copy. I love buying handbags and have had quite a few new M&S ones off ebay and I have also bought one or two vintage ones - At the right price of course. I just cant wait for the weather to pick up and the car boot season to start.:T Are you a car booter?

Dansmum - I know just what you mean about feet. They are horrendous but we would be lost without them! A friend was telling me today that a new shop has opened nearby where you put your feet in a tank of water and tiny fish nibble off all the hard skin.
OMG!! Apparently its all the rage in some other countries. I think the chain of shops are called pretty feet. :rotfl:

Today unfortunately has been a work day so I havent really been able to do anything at home. I did manage to pay £2 off my mortgage whilst I was at work. I decided to change my working hours today to see if the traffic was any better if I left home half an hour later. Anyway it only took me half an hour, door to door, for a journey which would normally take me an hour. I am going to do this every day now. It must save me something in fuel. ;) I have also decided that my car is to be put away in the garage every night. I have just got a bit lazy recently and have just dumped it on the drive. Anyway good sense tells me that it must keep the car in better condition being in the garage overnight. :A

Yet again we have been eating up leftovers. Ended up missing breakfast but had leftover tuna/pasta for lunch. Tea was rather exciting. A long time ago someone bought sidneysdad a box of Harvey Nicholls risotto and a jar of truffle sauce - So thats what I had and it was lush. Sidneys dad had sausage roll and oven chips. We are going to have to have a few more of these concoctions before the freezer is empty. :D

Thats it for today. Thanks soo much for reading and your relies.

  • Hey hun,

I totally agree with what you are saying about charity shop pricing, some things i've looked at in a couple of char shops have been ridiculously overpriced for brands that are low priced to begin with - i guess it depends on who is pricing it up.

I've had some fab charity shop buys, i always go for the 'nicer' brands as i can afford to buy new stuff in Mr T's and Georgieboys so i'm looking for more upmarket stuff , i think i must be a charity shop snob :cheesy:., (it always cheers me up no end if i've got an amazing item of clothing for what my 'new' clothes budget can afford me - knowing full well i'd never afford it full price)

Harvey Nic's risotto and truffle sauce, puts my vegetable pasta to shame, i would have really loved to have tried that.

I remember when i was young someone gave my folks a fortnum and mason hamper and we thought we'd won the lottery (or the football pools at that time!!) - my mum still has the 'hamper' left in her attic and we take it for picnics.

Oh and btw my girls are 6 & 9 (going on 25!)

    Dansmum,

I'm with you on the whole foot thing - my feet are quite lovely (lol) but until i was in my teens i wouldn't even wear open toe shoes as i hated all feet soooooo much (don't think i'm gonna be training to be a chiropodist/podiatrist anytime soon) - i don't think my toe-nails have seen the light of day for at least a decade as i always have to wear nail polish to make them acceptable!!!

    xx

Hello everyone the charity shops near me are very cheap but when I went to Muswell Hill the other Sunday the prices were ridiculous. There is no way I am going to buy any old jumper for eight pounds! I like to get good quality stuff too or old fashioned hand knitted jumpers and cardies.
I haven't been to a car boot sale in many years but I've found out there is one quite near by on Saturday and Sunday so I plan to go soon.

I like to hide my toes away too if I can help it.

I had a lovely dinner of red peppers stuffed with left over roast chicken and spicy cous cous.

  • Trixiepix - Hi and thanks for replying. You are so lucky to have daughters - I would have loved one. We have four sons!! OMG. The eldest two are single and the youngest two who are 19 and 20 are both "courting". My youngest son is even a dad. He and his girlfriend have a baby boy. I know I am really lucky as the two girfriends are lovely. It would just have been nice to buy some dresses for little girls IYKWIM. X :)

rubytuesday - Old hand knits. How wonderful. I just love that sort of clothing. Its great to have something individual. I think thats why I like getting the odd item of vintage clothing. I was soo lucky the other week and managed to win a vintage Jane Shilton red handbag from Ebay. Think it cost about £5 inc p&p. Bargain !! Good work eating up the leftovers. :D

Dansmum - Gold star to Dansdad. How many horses have you got?
Also well done on the weight loss. Have you followed a plan? I dont need to slim at the moment but I try to follow Slimming World as I think its a healthy way of eating. :T

Have been at work again today. I set off after rush hour and came home after rush hour. Why have I sat in traffic for years? I think I have wasted half my life behind the wheel of a car !!
I paid another £2 off my mortgage so that has kept me focussed. Whilst at work I found out that I could be eligible for what is classed as a "long service award". Anyway I made my application and I hope I am successful as you get £150 in vouchers which can be from places such as M&S.
Had leftovers again today. Last night as I went to bed, I switched the slow cooker on. I had found some leftover macaroni in the cupboard and used it to make a milk pudding. It made two portions so I took some to work for breakfast. Lunch was the last of the leftover pasta and tuna. Tea was a real concoction. We had leftover small red onion and goats cheese tarts from Christmas. They came from a party pack. We had them with the last of the roast potatoes and some baked beans. God what a mixture. :rotfl:
I have had a look at my freezer inventry and think I have about 3 weeks worth of main meals left. However I will have to buy food for our Sunday dinners. I am off work now till Tuesday so I will do a spot of food shopping. Hopefully I wont spend much. :)

    Hi SidneysMum x

I know what you mean re the traffic thing. Some days it takes 20 minures and others it can take an hour. I've resorted to going the long way to work on the dual carriageway as its quicker iyswim?

Roll on spring when I can dig my bike out of the garage and zip in on that :D Loving filtering through the traffic and making car drivers jealous :D

I have one horse, but also look after one of my Mums horses so I say 1 and a half :p Her's is a really really old boy (he'll be 32 this year) and retired, mine is 19 this year bless his socks and a real hairy monster this time of year.... Am a total animal bore - sorry - in the absence of kids they're my babies...

Day off today - lazing around :o Sun is shining so will have a ride later and post the ebay items sold yesterday and that'll be it. I got a slow cooker for Christmas and have done a couple of things in it love it :D
