If I lectured in Accountancy I could earn over £28 per hour according to a recruitment ad in my Accountancy magazine - such interesting reading!

i used to be a nanny.
if there is a problem on either side it can cause an atmosphere, your nanny may already have an idea that things arent right, or the atmosphere can end up rubbing off on the kids, if it isnt tackled early enough.
if you generally feel the nanny isnt right then you must look at other options
however, if in general you do like and trust her, its just the issues you mentioned, then talk to her.
she might think that taking your child to her childs activities is okay, as i would do, if the childrne are similar in age..maybe she thinks your child will benefit form the activity? what is the activity she is taking him to?
i would just talk to her informally and say you appreciate she has been taking your child along to.... but dont feel he is benefitting from it and would prefer to maybe do.........instead. if she is only working 3 days suggest she goes to the activity in her own time.
if you have said at interview you are very flexi (dont know if you have or havent) that can often be mistaken as being over accomodating..why is she asking you to come home early?? i would say although you didnt mind coming home ealry as she settled in to her new role, you cannot keep returning early and it will be .. time in future, unless by prior arrangement.
when i was a nanny i did occasionally go shopping. was it just a one off or is she going ever week/day?
the engagement with your child is the biggest worry..and the real issue you have to consider..one family i worked for accused me of this, but when we started to discuss it i pointed out they didnt want any "messy" activities in the house, we were confined to one small play room, we had to be quiet as mum was sleeping upstairs, and i had many many chore to do, along with taking the gran shopping twice a week! i did however go to baby massage, song time, toddler group, etc. when at home i would let the child play while i had a cuppa, it might have been the only time i sat down all day with one, but the mum saw that and presumed i did it all day..
this particular aprent then aksed me to draw upa weekly "timetable" so she could see what activites we were doing and when. i also wrote down the chires i was doing, along with family shopping, washing etc and she soon stopped the timetable idea.. im not comparing you to this family in any way, just maybe showing another viewpoint for consideration ?
i too have remained in touch with most families i have worked for. i would say for each family there has been some kind of issue, not necessarily a bad one or major one, but each time communication has resolved it and made for a better working life.

i must say though i always wandered how nannies with their own child got on, must be hard taking your own child to work, i left nannying 2 yrs ago sfter three and a half years at it.

    good luck xx

Good grief the parent didn't want a Nanny they wanted a slave:eek:

Dare I ask, how much per hour did you get paid?

That is slave labour - 4 kids:eek: . 36 hours a week @ £6 ph = an annual salary of £11k. did you get to keep the car to use on your non work days or did you only use it when you were at their house?

OK. OP - if you are not happy with the the Nanny then dump her. But please do not whinge on about how much they are paid. £7.50 an hour. That's about £15K a year - to look after your child. Nealr everyone has to work to earn a living and looking after some one elses child is not as easy as you thinkk especially for what is well below average wage. I'm not sticking up for the nanny you have, but if you want someone to look after your child properly then be prepared to pay a decent wage - I don't care what the agency says, what would you do for £7.50 an hour?
