£414 gas bill!!!!

  • I could kick myself. I recently had a de-clutter and shredded lots of old bills! I have found an old gas bill from 07 and I think I was being charged the correct amount then, the bill is as follows:

    gas used 2/5 - 15/6: 1573e
    units: 196
    Kwh: 2188

If I'm working it out correclty they were billing that as metric weren't they?

Is it free to request old bills?

    Thanks

    That one is correct, 2188 / 196 = 11.16.

The copy bills should be free as all previous bills are in dispute.

This is a very interesting thread as I have just had a massive gas bill for my property for the last quarter! I am in a 2 bed house, the only things that use gas are the heating/water which I have on for about 3 hours 4 tops each day and a gas hob which I dont even use every day! Everything else is electric! I am only in the house during the evenings and weekends so nothing is used whilst I am out. My bill came to 220 for gas for the quarter and 180 for electric, I thought the electric would have been much higher. My question is...I am with EON, how do you find out what they have your meter down as i.e. imperial or metric - thanks

    Hi smp77

I've posted a reply to your thread about the billing query at the following link which I hope gives you a few pointers.

In relation to the gas meter, as others have said, your bill will tell you if we're charging as imperial or metric. Also, check the meter itself. The type of meter will be noted on the plaque.

Let us know asap if the bill says one thing and the meter another as this will mean we have billed you incorrectly.

Any problems, give us a call or drop me an email as per the above link.

OMG - I am paying £239 per month for combined Elec/Gas - NPower. Both myself and OH work and kids are at school so nothing is used during the day. The heating/water (gas) is on 2 hours in the morning and from 3pm until 9pm in the evening. I cook on a gas hob but electric oven. We have the television on at night but I have mostly economy saving lightbulbs. As I paying too much?

Welcome back MrsS!! Missed your posts. It sounds like the tariff with Npower could be too high for your usage. A quick check with your supplier will explain. Dont forget though you have the heating and water on for 8 hours a day in the winter so that will tot up a bit. You need to be warm though for the kids - let alone for you and your husband!!!

    love mrs s.

ps did you get my email?

It seems very high to me. During this cold weather I'm probably paying a bit less than £100 per month for similar usage.

The problem with the "I am paying £xx per month" posts is that they are meaningless. To be of any use we need to see "I am using xxkWh and I am paying £xx a month and my last bill was £xx in credit" to make any sense
  • Quick update and many thanks...

I rang EDF today, they agreed that there was an error and are going to re-bill me (as well as sending copies of my old bills dating back to the start of this year) so I can at least see if the problem occured when I moved from Scottish Power back to EDF (if I need more bills I can then request them).

They are going to send me a new bill within a few days so I can see if matches to what I have worked out it should be (roughly) for at least the most recent billing period.

Thanks again for your advice, if I hadn't posted here I probably would have had a real battle with them but at least I was more educated and managed to dispute the bill. What is worrying is how many people might have just accepted the bill and paid it!
