  • Off topic (ish)By way of diversion, here's a video of a deluded, obnoxious, abusive person who thinks she is something special, like some of the new joiners on here - listen how she reacts when the truth which she can't face is told to her by people who know their stuff, and listen to the comments after she has left ...... Quite a few Rachels on here these days.

Fantastic :rotfl: wouldn't fancy waking up next to that !

but thinking, disussing elsewhere on Peak demand, Renewables and UK national grid the other day and it made me think of this article i read a while back

Decline and fall of the Roman empire and complex systems

""the marginal benefit of complexity". That is because complexity has a cost - it costs energy to maintain complex systems. As you keep increasing complexity, this benefit become negative. The cost of complexity overtakes its benefit. At some moment, the burden of these complex structures is so great that the whole society crashes down - it is collapse."

Is this describing our future energy strategy in the UK?

    Hi

I have been courteous enough to describe where you logic is flawed and, like others who have attemped the same, have been met by an abrupt and abrasive attitude which is totally in-line with the definition and intent of serial trolling. I have noticed that today you have followed at least one of your chosen targets around the forum and have been abrasive there too.

The reply to your request regarding post #1130, which is open for all to see, is that the answers have already been provided, being contained in my post referenced in that very post and earlier posts, please read, digest and understand ...

i gave simple maths in post 1130 that proves you wrong.

that doesnt make me a troll, it just makes you wrong.

I see that everybody that you have endeared towards yourself has posted comments on your "Scottish grid upgrade plans" thread.

James, it's only going to get more complex me thinks. Unless we get super cheap shale gas, plus carbon capture and storage, and nuclear fusion. I suspect, it'll be a mixture of varied energy supplies, and a lot of work to address demand volatility too.

Not going to be cheap nor simple, but should be interesting to watch!

Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

For general PV advice please see the PV FAQ thread on the Green & Ethical Board.

True. We either develop solar, wind, nuclear, hydro, hydrogen etc etc to their fullest capacity or we end up buying from your local friendly oil and gas supplier...

Sheikh Ya'Money from OPEC, Vladimir Putin and the Russian Mafioso or that nice Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran. I'm sure that they'll all cut us a great deal as availability dwindles and demand from China and India ramps up exponentially!

  • Yes, and the more complex it gets , will the
"the marginal benefit of complexity" start to show sooner or later in terms of environmental benefits.

    Cost is another thing altogether

Is there a simpler model ?

really worth a read if you've the time

    Hi

    I agree ....

I think that the result of the recent discussions have simply shown to those who have pv systems, or are considering pv systems and want to make the most of their systems that split-ring sensor monitoring devices are designed to be monitors, not meters, and should be used as such. Anyone wishing to use such a device in order to accurately meter generation should consider units with optical pulse sensors which can be used with appropriate import, export and total generation meters.

Sorry,... still if you have the time ... :D

Yep, i agree with above they wont/dont work
I lend mine out to friend, and customers, no good now we've got PV

How do you make the most of its ?
depends on what you want to achieve

If it's reducing your bill , then change you life and appliance use to fit around when the sun is shinning. Eat a large meal mid-day and a sandwich for tea ,etc.
If its reducing energy consumption and resultant polution , then be as fruggle as possible during the day and at peak demand times for the grid and run your washing machine/tumble dryer/immersion (if you use electric for DHW) in the middle of the night. Change all lamps to energy CFLs,or LEDs, buy A++ appilance as and when it's possible.
