    i get dla but we dont get "extra" to help for heating costs

    No, I meant that the extra costs of heating is part of what DLA is awarded for.

    Also, you need to get another quote. £2,500 is a ridiculous amount for this, particularly as you only want a small one to heat one room.

    You did say "But why should the OP get a grant for what many would call a luxury item"

    Yes I did but if you'd bothered to read the whole sentence instead of just a section of it;

    "But why should the OP get a grant for what many would call a luxury item when there are other cheaper alternatives?"

    I have made absolutely no comment about heating being a luxury. I made comment about there being cheaper alternatives to a multifuel stove, some of which have already been mentioned in this thread.

    He didn't say the heating itself was a luxury item....just the method of heating, hence the 'cheaper alternatives' comment.

    OP, I'm further north than you but have experienced 1st hand how cold Aviemore was, and I have a disabled son so I feel for you and can understand your situation.

    I could be wrong but I dont think there is any public funding available to help with what you want to do.

    It depends what level of DLA he receives. On middle rate it would take 8/12 weeks to save the cost of buying a stove with the cost of installation taking about the same time again. Basically the money received over one summer.

    You're assuming that the OP's son has no extra disability costs. Like I've said, many people (including myself) find that our disability costs are much more than DLA.

    If I was you I would get a few quotes because an installer may come from Inverness or Aberdeen. I have a large 7 bedroomed house on three floors. The flue was a really long one because of the height of the house and that adds to the cost I know, but you may be able to get a cheaper multi fuel stove than what you have been estimated.

    Good luck with you search.
    a fitter isnt a problem,i speak to 1 everyday at work and know of another couple who come in also,so its just getting him round to look at what i want and gettign the stove,hearth+flues etc

    As an aside, where would the fuel come from for the stove? We have used our stove almost every day since the end of September. If we had to pay for the wood it would have been in excess of £400 worth. This is not something a lot of people think about when getting one. Free wood is like rocking horse **** and very hard to come by.
    i would get a lot of wood free,and more cheap also can get smokeless coal bags fairly cheap also

    Have you had a look at your local council website? There maybe some grants available there.
