Blackberrys - any good??

Hi,

I currently have a monthly contract with 02 and have had it for years and years. Whenever I come to upgrade my mobile I always pick a simple but decent phone. However, I have just spoken to o2 and they have said that unless I want to down grade my phone to a really basic one which will only make calls I'd have to upgrade to something like an iphone or blackberry. It wont cost me anything as I have been with 02 for so long but I'm all confused! I dont like the iphone as I think it is too wide for ladies(!!) and I have no idea about Blackberrys. Are they easy to use? Does the internet aspect of the blackberry come within my free bits within my contract or do I have to pay more? Any advice would be great!!

Thank you
Michala

  • I have the IPhone 4 its great phone, not as wide as blackberry and anyone i know who has had blackberry has ended up going to iphone due to problems with their blackberry
ive not had a blackberry so not used one but i do love iphone, easy peasy to use !
  • My Blackberry is my pride and joy, it is excellent and easy to use, a lot of my friends do have IPhone 4 and it is good, but I love my Blackberry it's my pride and joy, you can use email and Internet quickly and gain instant access to the Internet.

I have mine on Simplicity offer with 02, it's excellent offer just £15 a month, as I bought my own handset... Blackberry phones have Blackberry messenger which is also good, they also have their own Apps, so check it out...... I love blackberry but others would say different.

It is easy to use, and the screen doesn't get dirty like an iPhone, go into the phone shops try them out.

  • I've had Blackberrys for about 4 years now. Never had any problem with them, at the moment I have the Torch on O2.

Contrary to what people say they are not data hungry like the iPhone, never gone over my data allowance. In most Blackberrys you can add data cards up to 32gb and change the battery!!

It does what I want it to do mainly sending and receiving emails. I don't use it for music or internet browsing. At the end of the day it's what you want from a phone. They are very reliable as I've said never had any problems and I've 4 of them. There was only one I didn't like and that was the Storm 2.

  • I have a blackberry and its easy to use and I do have lots of apps. Friends have i phones and some wish they hadn't as they seem to have problems. But overall it looks like just personal preference.

My wife is a technophobe, and 18mths ago got a Blackberry, and has had the 8900, 9700 and is now on a Torch - 9800.....She loves it!

Family has been there done that with the iPhone, 3G, 3GS, iP4, and all now have Blackberry......Not sure who the 2nd poster hangs round with, but my teen daughter has over 100 BBM contacts, and 2-3yrs ago, all those kids were hanging round with iPhones.

The blackberry's are very popular as a choice phone for ladies very trendy lady I know has one, I can't fathom the appeal, however they have something right, and RIM OS is more popular than apple, plus you don't see so many tales of woe vs the apple, at least you know the alrm clock function will work if you go for the blackberry

I have had an iphone and blackberries and much prefer blackberries. I have the torch at the moment. OH has the iphone 4 and I have had a play with it, but still prefer my Torch. His iphone forever seems to be crashing or need charging. Oh and I love bbm too.

I've had blackberries for a while and although i've only played with an iphone i'd pick a BB every time. I <3 BBM :)

The pearl 3g is quite small if you don't want a big phone with a full qwerty keypad. It also has a good camera, and feels well made.

Just don't go for the curve 8520 - rubbish camera, no flash and the screen looks and feels cheap :(

Like a previous poster i've never gone over my data allowance on any of my BBs, they're very simple to use, and support for them from blackberry themselves seems quite good. Any of my friends who have had problems with them have had their handset replaced without issue.

The apps available are a lot more limited than an iphone but as you're used to a simple phone I'm guessing it wont bother you much :) It hasn't bothered me because i'm happy to just be able to text, call, check my emails and use BBM :)

I don't think it is because of the used to simple phone, it is a matter of having useful apps that work for you, not you work for the app.
I have an ipod touch (latest edition) and an SE Satio and a palm tungsten pda, I still use all 3, and considering the ipod touch, there is no way I would have an iphone (and I really do use my Satio as an alarm clock duirng the working week :o)
Off the top of my head the BT FON app and BG app are handy and would be good for symbian, but you can't play million pound drop live on the touch :(, for web access when I can't be bothered to log onto my PC , I grab which ever is closest between the satio and touch, the address book I still use the palm as the fields and categories are instantly customizable
