Alot of times in cases like these you have parents who have never worked a day in their lives. Where is sueing them going to get you?0 -
Unless you are confident a defendant can pay any order the county court makes against them then paying for a court case is just good money after bad.
For the initial cost of a letter to child's parents/guardian requesting for costs, then £30-40 for online court summon, most would pay that for a chance to recover £18000 -

Gene you sound like a sad old man who have no worthy friends so you talk nonsense behind the keyboard on internet forums.0

Not only will the OP lose the NCB, they will also lose the excess.
The OP should chase the family for the excess & claim from the insurance. If the family refuse to pay the excess. I would probably push it to the small claims court.
If it was a £100 excess, then maybe take it on the chin. But certainly not an £500 excess.
Taking the child / childs parent to the small claims court will not cost a alot, £30 for inital claim then £35 allocation fee if it reaches that stage. All refundable if you win.
I've been down the small claims court route in the past, and its pretty straight forward.

And if they can't pay they get a CCJ?0 -

You show your ignorance.
The minimum court costs for a hearing over £1800 would be £230 plus another £100 to get the bailiffs involved if necessary.0 -
I remember a thread on here about a child who damaged a car by hitting it with her bicycle, and then the OP getting a load of abuse saying to right she should have to pay,as she damaged it,and now its not the kids fault that she ran into a moving car and caused damage as a result of her actions? ( I am not pointing the finger at individual posters,as i am far far to lazy to find the other thead and match posters to comments).
I agree however, that trying to get anywhere persuing this is liable to be a waste of time.
Next time it happens, try to hit em harder ..... with any luck they won't do it again .......˙ʇuıɹdllɐɯs ǝɥʇ pɐǝɹ sʎɐʍlɐ
