Thanks twinklie and toots
twinklie-looking for something within my sector, but also happy to do some temping or something in the meantime, admin, pub work...whatever! but in the long term want to be doing what I spent thousands of pounds of student loan training for!sorry DH has been asleep all day.. hope you get a nice sunday together
toots- yep love grand designs but seeing how quickly and easily they go hundreds of thousands over budget Id definitly either be 1)swotting up on building and costs or 2) getting someone with the know-how to manage it for me! but they do end up with some lovely lovely things...0 -
I am a bit stressed at work as well. My boss seems to think it is ok to make smart comments about me in a joking but derogative manner. So much so that I went home crying the other day. I was also upset because his mum works in the office too and she didnt say anything. I went in the next day and he had a cuppa waiting for me on my desk and he was really polite, but it doesnt excuse it. I hate it there and really want to get a job closer to home now. The only thing is they are good to me with regards to the kids being off school etc. I dont know what to do really I would lose money on having to pay more childcare but would save on petrol but not enough to cover it.
I hope you can get something sorted hun xMPs left feb '08 276- Dec 13 36 :T MB Jan 10 ~ £82,377 Dec 13 ~ £29987

Hey Pammy
sorry just noticed your reply! sorry your having a tough time at work - sounds like your boss at least on some level realised he was out of order? Its tough when there are "perks" to the job like childcare/flexibility that it feels that you may not get elsewhere but Id imagine most companies will have some kind of family friendly policy- given a lot of the working world at some points may well have childcare responsibilties of some kind!
hope you get something sorted soon!!
Need to research mortgages for my place but thinking BTL is a lot of hassle!...
On the moneysaving front I have been squirelling away as much savings as poss as a buffer ...will sort out yearly bills/expenses from it as they come up but for now just getting as much as I can and spending as little as is practical! on other MSE notes have been doing well with the present stash so far and people are appreciating the gifts (quite a few birthdays in jan right after xmas!!)
using up the freezer/whoopsied stuff altho shopping a bit more expensive this month- must get back into meal planning and have been a lot more lazy since going back to work (only to be expected I guess!)
anyway- best get off to the day job .... have a good day all0 -
Looks like your plan is coming together, I'm with you on the BTL thing, it's a lot of hassle, is it really worth it? I am wondering about that myself at present. Everyone says that it is a brilliant investment but it is a lot of botheration. I am trying to work out what will add together to make a good life and CHOICES.
Have a good day.0 -
Thanks toots
Yeah re: BTL Im sure for someone it is a great investment but for me I like security and peace of mind, not having to think of much once Im done with work for the day and home...not that tennants have been a problem- in fact quite the opposite , but long term its not what I want to do so think that is my choice!
plus we have been talking a lot about eventually getting a bigger place and are both now really commited to saving and being less wasteful than usual so am confident I can make things work in one way or another wherever the money is sitting! (ie bank or house!)
loads of new diaries around- great to see people getting into this - maybe all my warbling along to friends etcc will also have rubbed off!
feeling more positive at the mo, tho knackered and glad its only friday tomorrow!! work situation whilst still the same I have taken the right action on it rather than sitting back and hoping itll disappear and also applied for a job and keeping a look out so will see what comes of that!
Sad week too as found out someone we know died very suddenly yesterday - totally unexpected and shows you how random and short life can be....made sure mrtyo got hugged extra tight as its just so sad to think you just never know...easy to let things get out of balance and perspective until something happens to remind you that life can be short and so unpredictable...

Hi TYO,
I thought I'd pop on over to see your diary and it sounds like you've got some great plans in place. Not too dissimilar to mine I was thinking as well
I'm very sorry to hear about your friend , these things do change the way you think about life don't they?
Good luck on the job hunting front too - I hope you find something soon.

Hi Rach
thank you - very sad news and a big shock to everyone..
yep things like this definitely put life in perspective - we have (through necessity) had to be pretty frugal the last 6 months or so ....its hard sometimes to find balance between wanting to OP as much as possible and also between enjoying life and having some fun!
Plans for the weekend.....
*Exercise!... must get back into this! (mw if your reading this I havent forgotten the challenge!) gonna start gently maybe some cycling ...
*Prepare some healthy meals for next week - we have gone a fair bit over on the food shopping and I need to kick of my healthy eating as clothes are getting tight! too much xmas chocolate decluttering methinks! :rotfl:
*on the subject of decluttering....;) thats the plan for the weekend- tidying the flat as well as fitting some insulation which will hopefully lower some of the electric bills!
*have a lie in! shattered this week so definitely no getting up early for me!
*spend some time re-doing cv and job hunting...
thats all I can think of so far- will come back when Ive managed!0 -
sorry to hear about your friend. Life is short and it is for enjoying. Puts a lot into perspective.0

Sorry to hear about your friend.
Haven't forgotten about exercise challenge either - think we're all struggling a bit in January! Have done 2 exercise sessions this week, and hoping for 2 on the weekend to make up a bit for last week... but time will tell! Hope you have you much deserved lie in, and get everything else done you want to this weekend. I also plan to do a bit of decluttering, and tidying.Mortgage [STRIKE]16/03/2011: £190K 01/01/2017: £107,729.65 [/STRIKE] 01/07/2017: £95,979.89
