WELL DONE TO BOTH OF YOU :jA positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

I thought Id just pop in and let my adoring public know I am officially MF!!!!! :j:beer::j:beer::j:beer:
House sale completed this week - hurrah!!
I may add a disclaimer that i have no house (well I have the one we live in) so not technically "MF" but at least one part of it is sorted now!!
Next big plan for 2012 is to crack on with the savings.
All my pots (car/xmas/holidays) are filled for next year already so I just need to save save save as much as poss for when we buy somewhere!!
In true MSE style I have concocted from my cupboards/fridge this morning:
10 minChrce pies
20 cupcakes
5 jam tarts
15 rice krispie cakes
and a partridge in a pear tree ....
(ok not actually the last one!)
Will post updated SOA when Ive had a think! :rotfl:
Oh and Happy Christmas to all
Happy Christmas Tyo.
I'm confused now. You have no mortgage, and you own the house you live in - having sold the one you were letting. Is that right? In what way is that not technically MF? Or do you mean that you'll be taking on a new mortgage when you buy somewhere sometime soon?
Congratulations on the sale, anyway.Starting again 13/4/19Home loan 1: £21,102.50 Home loan 2: £7,698.99Total owed: £28,801.49

Hey Radish
Am keeping fingers and toes and everything crossed that next year is your year and yours will sell!! (plus you could be technically MF at the rate you are going too!!)
Yes mtryo will be allowed food for xmas.... in fact he has already found the cakes and mince pies! I really am quite nice to him I promise! :rotfl:
GG thank youhope you have a fab xmas
Lois- happy xmas too! Nope we- well actually technically mrtyo has a mortgage on the place we live, plan is to do this up and save save save then pool all the money for one big huuuuuuuuge mortgage! (or hopefully not so huge!) so not MF yet! for where we are its a good £200K we would be needing to borrow I reckon for a house so itll be save save save this end!!
But for now am happy its xmas, no work for almost 2 weeks
Off out tonite but driving so should be cheap, have made some freezer meals this afternoon and busy thinking of resolutions for 2012! Am thinking mainly getting fit and healthy so 3x per wk exercise and cutting out alcohol, chocolate , crisps and fizzy drinks for the whole of jan.... (but thats a week away yet!! :rotfl:)0 -
Ah I see. You personally (Tyo) are MF having sold your old place, although you plural (Mr & Mrs Tyo) still have a mortgage. Makes perfect sense now. I had a while of being MF before I bought this place. I was living in rented and actually had quite a lot of cash from the aftermath of the end of my marriage, but of course no house. Now I have a house and no money like most of the rest of people.Starting again 13/4/19Home loan 1: £21,102.50 Home loan 2: £7,698.99Total owed: £28,801.49

Lois - exactly the case! Its is very strange having any amount of savings in the bank so must be disciplined!!
Have decided my 2012 aim is to save £15000, I intend to set up a standing order to a savings account in order to start saving (need to do some research here) and also top up with halifax rewards, any amazon sales, tcb (need to remember to use this for all purchases!) Also setting a £1500 grocery budget for the year- need a big kick up the backside to be much healthier so hopefully cutting down on the junk food will help! Planning on using lidl more and also market for fruit and veg as I was HORRIFIED by the price in the supermarket the other day (80p for 2 baking potatoes!!)
Other than that no major 2012 goals am planning to have a payday treat every month out of fun spends, so possibly a cheapy (or DIY at home) beauty treatment or something else nice but not breaking the bank! Also want to get on the fitness challenge as have a wardrobe full of clothes I want to wear!
Merry xmas all , Im excited about my new 2012 diary (even if the rest of you arent!! :rotfl: )0 -
Tyo, the worst bit was going into the solicitor's office and writing out a cheque for the deposit on the house. I had never imagined writing a cheque that big, and it was painful. Lovely to have my forever house, though, so worth it.Starting again 13/4/19Home loan 1: £21,102.50 Home loan 2: £7,698.99Total owed: £28,801.49

Lois- Ill bet - I never like handing over large sums of money!! Am sure house is worse it though
Mw- thanks hope you had a great xmas, just gonna do a quick end of year update before starting a shiney new 2012 diary!! :rotfl:
So.... drum roll please....
At the start of the challenge (July 2010) mortgage stood at £129950 (ish!)
At the start of the year mortgage stood at approximately £126000
As of today mortgage balance stands at £0
Ta da!!!!!

*ahem*
So.... I also have no house to go with my no mortgage so not quite officially MF but my next big plan is to hammer away at savings (and mrtyo is making noises about having extra OPs too!! my brainwashing has paid off! :rotfl:)
We have done pretty well this year in hammering down the mortgage as well as redecorating, and other expenses (those old emergency fund sort like broken cars and appliances!)
Have done well on the freebie front everything from chocolate to baileys to toothpaste and shampoo and our bathroom is well stocked so I dont think any toileteries or cleaning stuff will be needed all year (oh...is that a challenge I hear!!)
Big aim for 2012 is sticking to a grocery budget and aim to use the "eating out of the freezer and cupboards" thread to keep me a little bit accountable! we have stuff in the cupboards which I think was also there last new year so I do need to use it rather than buy more!!
Apart from that am starting the new year with some vouchers for a meal out, plus 2 4 1 vouchers for pizza (of course after that am on a health kick!...)
Will start shiney new diary with SOA (arent you all excited to hear that?!) but just wanted to say thanks muchly for all the support through 2011 :money::beer:0
