Right now, i am saving for purchasing new house, saving as much as possible from very long time. Now i also started the side business for the extra income and more saving.0

First posted here four months ago, had £2,800 saved at that point, now up to £3,950! I put in £350 every month and will put another £350 next week when I get paid
I'm a student at Loughborough University on placement in Nottingham at the moment, and I finish the placement in August. However I have decided I will move to Loughborough in July and commute from there for my final month, it'll be a massive pain as it's two hours each way, but I'll save £500 in rent! And I figured since my accommodation in Lboro starts in July there's little sense in paying two rents for 6 weeks. Money saved too!0 -
1000 k per month is my regular saving of ewverytime..0

Me and my partner currently live in Liverpool in a house we bought in 2005 soon after getting together. Circumstances have now changed we are married with 2.5 year old twin boys and hate the area we live in. To dig us out of negative equity and buy in an area we want we need 30 k in total by the end of next summer when the new house on our dream estate will be ready. We currently have 16k saved. So far this week since throwing ourselves into extra saving big time we have sold cds, dvds, ipods, sealed unwanted gifts, pacapod baby changer and a nintendo ds. We have also done a food shop on own brand basics apart from nappies which we are wary about comprimising quality. Areas we are also going to cut are on takeaways and will be asking for money for birthdays and christmas from close family. We do have more items to sell such as unused trikes sitting in the shed. We need every tip and moneysaving hint but arent thinking along the lines of the superscrimper programmes for heating savings and making your own clothes, candles etc. are we missing any real quick wins. Everything that isnt regulary used is being sold, hubby has canceled gym and i have frozen my pension.0

As a general observation - - don't bust a gut for a new house. Another one will be right round the next corner a bit later. But I do understand if you have got your mind set on something special, it isn't easy to let go....
The only substantial financial booster I can think of would be something that might at first put you off completely but if you take your time to properly investigate it, you could find about £2K in 6 months, more if you really get the hang of it. It's proper MSE stuff, been here for years, and made a huge difference to many people's finances. It does need commitment and tenacity though - something you seem to have plenty of, so I have high hopes for you -

I can vouch for sainsburys or tescos basics nappies (size4/5) they are made by the same factory and are of good quality. They have stretchy sides and absorb wetness, no explosions and no rashes! I was once a pampers only mum but with my second I've gone own brand only, saved a fortune, haven't looked back and wish Id done it with the first. They are only £1.41 for 28 nappies, buy a pack and see how you get on, they really are ok!2025 Mortgage start £378K 2025 Overpayment £103 Savings Challenge 2025 **MONEY MAKES ME HAPPY**0

Not doing too well here but hey! I keep trying hut it's hard to be motivated!
Victoria have you done martin's day on reviewing electricity suppliers, renegotiating sky etc (there will be links to it on here) also is there anything else you can cancel like fees on bank accounts?
Recently there were new current account offers where if you switch you can get £100 odd (I think Halifax and first direct) that could be worth or especially if you both do it! (Maybe look under bank accounts in the top mse menu or look back over previous weekly emails)
Also how do you get to work can you car share or walk/anything to reduce costs there? Do you take your own lunches to work?
Just little ideas of the things we should be doing (it's easier to tel someone else than to do it yourself!) that might help!0 -
Been putting away £700 a month but three things have happened to me:-
1. Tax free allowance has gone up;
2. Got a payrise;
3. Work needed a cleaner so I've offered my services to make some extra money.
This month will be the first month on my new wage but I don't start the cleaning until next month... should be able to put away £800-850 nowWhat will your verse be?
