  • In my opinion it depends on a person's income and basic needs. A person can see his monthly expenses and according to these expensive, he can manage his saving. However if a person earn 30-40000 usd per month, his saving should be 10 percent in a month..

Hi all!!!! Good to see some old faces and lots of new ones too! :)

I haven't been on here since about the start of 2012 - lots has happened, including me getting engaged and married! Sooo, the savings took a hit, but we did it as cheaply as possible and I am still on course to save almost £12,000 in 2012! :D I've been totting up and still have one a/c to access (Santander - their ebanking is crap) but so far I'm on (DRUMROLL) £65,339, which is £11,000 more than I had at the start of 2012! I didn't save *that* much pre-wedding, but I've been in saving overdrive since then! :money:

Also, my eBay sales are currently £4,559.89!

OH has about £17,000 in savings atm... so together we have over £82,000 saved

I must update my sig when I've got my Santander balances!

Just save as much as you possibly can, no matter how small, and try to make money too!

    *ahem*

I overestimated what was in my Santander accounts, my end of year total is actually a nice round £62,200 - so I saved a total of £7,858 in 2012! Way less than £12,000, but we did have the unexpected wedding expenditure :o and we also had to change our car, so that explains it. I will make up for it in 2013!!!!!!!!!!!!

That makes just under £80,000 in savings between me and OH.

  • What will I get about percentage as much of my savings.

  • The whole idea of saving 5 years just for a deposit and then paying £800 every month for the next 25 years is completely ridiculous. You are way better off investing those money in something even if that means investing it in yourself like starting a company or getting 1st or 2nd degree in whatever.

Some people find the whole thing of paying someone else hundreds/thousands of pounds in rent every month for the rest of their lives completely ridiculous.
