Hello All, hope you don't mind me butting in.
I'm trying to save some money - firstly for an emergency fund in case anything in my flat goes boing! and secondly for my sister's 40th birthday (she wants a bells and whistles trip to Florida).
I don't earn a great deal, have a large family so birthday/christmas is a bit of a mare. I do have a lodger (£300 per month) which helps but I really need to knuckle down and get myself into savings mode.
All the best to everyone and keep savingEmergency savings: 4600

Hello all, hope all is going well, will pick up soon, and good luck with it.
Had a look at my budget, had a good think, realised that im in the same boat as everyone else, that the overtime isnt really their and that i need to save what i can for my hols plus for anything else.
So i'm aiming to be saving £5 to £10 a month for holidays plus the same again for anything else in another account a month.
Anything got to be better than nothing is what im thinking, i got a once in a lifetime trip this year so who knows?0 -

Im going to New Zealand for about a month, doing some touring as part of an escourted holiday booked through a travel agent plus a week with a cousin living out their.
Had a couple of holidays, but have saved for years to do new zealand.
Im thinking i could and should save a few pounds elsewhere too for evenually buying my own place and that sort of thing, but like a lot of people, things are tight. worth thinking about/looking into?0 -
Having a good fund build up putting away 4 figure of my net income. I was not the most motivated when it was just early hundreds but now its up more than a fortnights wages. So must have been at it 2 months now. Best idea iv come up with yet especially as its landed right on a payrise so the extra money is not going to be missed if iv never had it! 2 months iv been at it to get 2 weeks wages..another 10 months and il have 3 months net wages in bank account as emergency fund. Might treat this as my £0 and take it from there.
Couple of aims
1-Get 3 months net wages as emergency fund by May 2012
2- Hand back car once paid half-about October. Frees up £240 a month, this will clear cards and overdraft in less than 10 months
3- Save up deposit/fees/moving costs for house by June 2013
4- Get net wages savings upto 6 months/at least a years expenses before taking plunge onto ladder.
4 simple steps. First one i am about 20% the way there.Work in progress...Update coming July 2012.
