ooh how do you get a Vantage account? I just have a standard classic and then a saver but 4% is better than my saver!!
oooh just looked it up and I have to pay in £1000 a month. I dont earn that much (I dont earn anything right now but when I get a job I wont earn that much!) :( might ask anyway and then I could set up some complex standing orders between my accounts.. Or maybe is it not worth it for 1% more.. I dont know! I think it is because on £7K thats £70 a year more..

I think most people just have a standard £1k and roll it thought Halifax and Lloyds accounts. You get the 4% plus the £5 a month from Halifax.

I rang the telephone banking and she did it on the spot.

As mentioned - all you need to do is cycle £1000 through the account - doesn't have to be in one payment and I don't think it needs to sit there for any period of tinme, just be paid in at some stage in the calendar month.

I checked my online banking this morning and my account description has updated :D

Slow and steady are my new watchwords. Building the savings pot up after putting down the house depoisit. Could save more but also trying to overpay the mortgage. At least my capital bond has had a reasonable increase since last year. Still waiting for my pay rise from work - at least it is back dated to Sept so will be a nice bonus when I finally get it.

Krazykel - hope you get your money soon!

backdated since September? thats ages for them to not have sorted it out cookie but hopefully it will be quit a big lump sum when you finally get it?!
Are you overpaying your mortgage AND building a savings pot for sort of rainy day emergencies or something? I would love to be in that position!!

I know its only small fry but I got paid £9 from ciao today (only my 2nd payment but I have really been slacking with that and dooyoo :( so not really expecting to get paid anything more for a long while :( ) anyways, that went straight into savings!
And I guess I'll wait on the vantage thing, I dont know if I have to get accepted but I am hopefull!

Quick update from me. I think the amount I'll be saving will go down considerably as we're in the process of buying a house (offer accepted, waiting for it to go through)!! Very very excited! But unlikely to be able to save for a while now.

I'll definately be staying on this board though, as I'll still be saving, albeit a smaller amount, but its nice to have a bit of a nest egg in case anything happens.

Just read through the threads properly, Mags_cat I love the idea of a rainy day fund. We'd love to have a few months mortgage payments saved 'just in case'. We actually got the house for a good price, nice and below our budget, however even with that I'm still a bit sad at the thought of not being about to save larger amounts each month. It'll probably be the odd £50 or £100.

To add to that, the flippin' car keeled over after our appointment with our mortgage advisor, not got it back yet, please don't cost a lot!!! I think I'm having a bit of a crisis as I've been on reduced pay since September, with no sign of it going back to normal in the near future. I'm starting to think I want to change jobs, even though I really like working for the company. Actually, I might start looking into doing some freelance work, hmm...
