Finally got my broadband sorted out so back online. Been saving fairly well although less than I used to as now overpaying on mortgage. Have done some extra work which should give me an extra £368 in my bank account this month. Unfortunately I have just bought a dressing table so only £68 will be heading into my savings fund.( Well it was in the sale and I also got cashback through quidco) I have agreed to do some more extra work next month so fingers crossed I will be able to add most of that to the savings fund. Happy saving everyone!!

I'm up to £4,600 now in the ISA (£9,600 in total) so getting there slowly. I'm hoping to break the £5k/£10k marks in the next month or two but a lot will depend on how much freelance work I get and whether I get paid on time.

Well done, I am sure you will hit £10k very soon!!! :) Are you planning a little treat to celebrate?

Hope so! I've got more than I expected in my VSP (Virtual Savings Pot, for anyone who's not seen the thread for this challenge) so I may dip into that for something :D Got to get there first though!

Yeah, you get alot for your money in Turkey. Me and my mate are going to Turkey and its costing about £500 each, all inclusive 5 star hotel, right in the middle of easter! It looks really nice. I'm really looking forward to it.

    xx

Who was that with? Well im afraid i go at the most expensive time of year, right in the middle of trades. So i might not be looking at all inclusive. I was thinking Spain. Really its just got to be really hot, not too expensive but not a dump, good place for couples and good beer :p

£1,000 emergency fund so far, will save that up gradually. Thats just my rainy day savings. Might not add more than a few hundred between now and July so i can go away. £1k enough for holiday+spending money you think? I mean £1k each?
Work in progress...Update coming July 2012.

    Hi Rictus,

I lurk on this thread (as I am saving on the 10K challenge!) but love holidays so thought I'd post

Is trades during July? My boyfriend and I went to Spain in July last year. We rented an apartment for 10 days, plus flights, spends and car hire cost us approx £750 each and we were staying in quite a dear area on the Costa del Sol. If you want me to PM you the website we booked our apartment through let me know- it was gorgeous and they do most countries.

Sometimes all inc works out cheaper, but it depends on whether you want to be tied to the hotel and eat in the same place every meal. I've done both and do prefer not to go all inc.

You'd be fine with 1k for a holiday, really wouldn't think you'd need any more than that.

To keep thread on topic, I am saving for a house deposit and a holiday this year. I save between £300-500 per month depending on what I have to pay out!

Well my savings have gone backwards, needed to pay for a flight back to the UK and my car insurance and a car service! So now I only have $2275 (did have nearly $6000).

Oh well - all necessary items and I'm still on target for my total in Dec 2011. Should be able to add over 2K next month too.

    Good luck to you all!

Hi all, and well done on all the savings and debt payments woo hoo! :D

I have only just updated my Feb savings, I only saved £718 in Feb (went on hols at start of March but bought holiday currency in Feb) but saved more than I expected in Jan so total savings for 2010 so far (up to 28 Feb) = £1,875.

I am well under budget for March so far, should save a good amount this month. Total saved so far = £31,742.

What is your secret?!! £31742 in savings is fantastic! I am new to MSE and have only just pulled my head out of the sand about my debts (now down to around £2500) but my dream is to get enough for a flat deposit. Problem is that living in the Surrey Hills (studio flat starting from £160000) it's so demoralising! How long did it take you to save that amount?

Um, there are some here with far bigger savings so I am not that special ha ha ha!! :) But thanks for your post.

It has taken me about 4 years or so to save that, before joining MSE I only saved a small % of my pay (I could kick myself at the money I wasted in the past but hey ho), now I save £10,000 a year by being super frugal but still enjoying the things that are important to me e.g. HOLIDAYS. I could easily save an extra £4-5k a year if I wasn't so fond of travelling, but it's important to me. OH and I are aiming to buy a house sometime and are hoping to have £60k joint savings by mid 2011 (me £45k, him £15k).

Well done on tackling your debts and good luck with the saving!!! Have a good look around the site and visit all the forums of interest to you, and don't miss the Grabbit board!! Keep posting here too and let us know how you're getting on. :A

I know what you mean about holidays, you've got to have a few luxuries! I think my weak point is socialising, if I had the money back for what I have spent socialising in the last 8 years I'd probably have enough for a 50% deposit!

Once I've paid off my debts I aim to save £700 a month, it'll be fairly tight but I'm paying that off easily each month in debts so shouldnt be too hard, I'm trying to reign in my bad habits now (ie inability to say no to a few glasses of vino at the local!) so that hopefully by the time I've paid my debt off I can pay more into savings.

Good luck and thanks for the tips
