    Hi

I have a Smart Car and I love it, very nippy, very economical, one years tax only costs £40 and insurance this year cost me only £160 fully comp with protected NCB. So a good all round cheap car to run. The Smart is used only for the daily commute to work only - we have a Focus too and I can say 4 years of hassle free motoring with that. If you need more seats than 2 then get something else.

You can pick up a 52 reg for £2k I think

Funny you should say that - I'm thinking of getting one too... cheapest I've seen is £4k though.

If you look around you can get a decent price on one. Looking around autotrader though the prices looking as though they are holding well. I bought mine 18 months ago for £4K and mine is a 52 reg, similar are selling for £3.5, so I guess I might have been wrong thinking £2K

Mine is pretty much the standard car, but you can do loads with them... they can be chipped to just over 100bhp for example which seriously speeds them up. They are lots of fun and if you like to mess you can do pretty anything to them.

Tallied up my savings yesterday - am currently on track for Platinum :T (ok, ok, I know it's only the first month of the challenge! ) But I'm pleased as I had a car repair bill to pay as well. How did everyone else get on in January?

Just tallying up the percentage saved out of our disposable income.

In calculating 'indisposable income' what essential expeditures have other people included? In mine I have included the following:

    Mortgage/ Rent
    Gas + Electric
    Home Phone + Internet
    Life Insurance
    Food shopping
    Car expenses - Insurance/ tax/ petrol
    Dentistry (averaged throughout the year)
Oops forgot council tax and water too!

Do you think this is OK? Thanks.

A little confused - I've been using Net Income for the savings challenge is this correct or should I be deducting expeneses such as rent etc?

    Hi

It was decided that it was savings after bills and normal monthly expenditure, so the disposable income
  • Glad to hear you're all saving well. At last count I was about 8% but I'm waiting until the end of the month.

    Hi All

I have used the spreadsheet to put in my saving figure for Jan.

It gave me a result of 6.98% of my yearly disposable income saved so far in 2007.

I am hoping to get my Bronze medal in Feb!

    Keep up the saving everyone!
