I'm in my early thirties and take home about £2.5k a month after tax, NI and pension have been deducted.

I once risked over £15,000 because everything went belly up because I failed to take an earlier profit!

Thanks sss555s. It has been a challenging but very rewarding year!

I am considering setting a goal for 2010. I'll probably go for another £10,000 plus any pay rise (if I get one :rotfl:). What about you?

  • Quick update - I'm now at 99% or just £200 away from my target for the year! Big boost because I had some (defacto) inheritance money so that's gone straight in to the pot. I only added £100 from wages again this month though, desperately needed a winter coat and some trainers that weren't falling to bits - I'd forgotten how enjoyable spending can be!

BTW my OH sent me this this morning which may be of interest - I think we're all doing really well in comparison - these are UK stats.

    Single Male without children
71% have no savings or savings less than £1500
    1% have savings between £16k and 20k
6% have savings above 20k (this is the highest data band)

Couple without children (these figures are now JOINT, or TOTAL between two)
39% have no savings or savings less than £1500
    4% have savings between £16k and 20k
21% have savings above £20k (this is the highest data band)

I'm still managing to save between £1500-1600 PM this tax year from my wages and a bit more from other interests. Up to around 33k not counting the money in my current account to cover my bills and hope to keep going the same way until i can find something better to do with my hard earned savings.

Why not aim high and go for 12k next year Tara? Wage rise, extra interest. You can do it!
