    Welcome CaroleM!

It was the same for me, I had been visiting for a while and was inspired by this post. I was fed up of being in a position to save and not actually saving anything. Reading this thread gave me the motivation and inspiration to start and now i'm almost half way to my target :D

Yes, although if it's from your ISA you lose the tax-free status forever. However money isn't everything and it's nice of you to help your parents out :)

Thanks. That's very true but I've not been putting much in savings so far this tax year and still have around £3k left to put in before April. Given my much reduced freelance earnings I can't see myself having much more than that to put in before then so I'm not really as bothered about that as I probably would have been otherwise!
ISA savings: £25,139 Other Savings: £1750 (tied up in bond)

I know the feeling, my house purchase is wiping out 11 years' worth of ISA contributions... I guess you have to spend the money sometime!

No idea how much I'll be saving once the mortgage kicks in, so will probably have to pay into this year's ISA in instalments over the year...

Suzey your savings are an inspiration.

I started with £11,000 this time last year and now have £25,000 saved up. If I could have savings of over £100,000 by the time I'm 30 (7.5 years time) I'll be over the moon
    Competion Wins 2008 - £1700 - 2009 £5300
    2010- £680

    If it's any help, I didn't have £25k until much later - when I was 24/25 :D

    I was 30 last year.

You should be able to reach your target easily at the rate you're going :D
