How much can you save?

Hi all,
Well, I am just retyping what I thought I had previously submitted as my last message failed to submit, doh !!! and it's not even Friday. Well, I am enjoying the debate so far. On a good month, I am able to save about 750 pounds a month and I am quite thrifty generally when purchasing items, etc. However, I would go along with what the majority seem to be saying here and agree that you also need to live so I intend to treat myself occasionally along the way although by focussing on my longterm goals, I will ensure that I do not stray off course too often.
As for going to far flung destinations around the globe, I have a slight phobia with planes - aaaaaaaaggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!! Run for the hills!!!!!!!
Think I should book myself onto one of those self-help aeroplane courses soon, one ponders . I do not yearn to see some of the wonders of the world that some people talk about although I have been to Egypt (fantastic place, has to be seen, nearly got lost in the depths of deepest Cairo whilst there - well, errrmmmm, nearly got bought by one of the market sellers actually who offered a price for me, lol). Might go on one of those Explore holidays in the near future where you meet up with people from across the country which can be an enjoyable way of holidaying as a single traveller.
Keep debating folks, as I am enjoying the recent threads and further supportive good luck wishes to all you money savers out there.

Yeh I'm not saying I don't have a life. Last weekend I went shopping with my gf and spent £200
Weekend just gone I went to Bath and went out with friends from home - overall, spent £100.
I just don't tend to like long summer holidays (although at the moment, with the sun shining etc. I do wish I was in Italy with a swimming pool etc)
Hey, whatever floats your boat! I probably wouldn't have spent the £200 shopping though, that'd get me a flight to quite a few places! :rotfl: I have 5 hols (2 long, 3 short) booked for 2009, already had a weekend away as well.
p.s. you don't like long summer hols? Maybe you are a little strange!! (joking!) :rotfl:Get to 119lbs! 1/2/09: 135.6lbs 1/5/11: 145.8lbs 30/3/13 150lbs 22/2/14 137lbs 2/6/14 128lbs 29/8/14 124lbs 2/6/17 126lbs

Can I join in? I've been mainly on the debt boards, but being 49 days away from being credit card free, I'd like some motivation.
If I start putting my credit card payments to savings, I reckon I'll have about £17,600 by the end of the year, but I'm really going to push for £20k. OH & I both live with parents and we've got £13k from parents to help with a house deposit.Don't worry about typing out my username - Call me COMP(Unless you know my real name - in which case, feel free to use that just to confuse people!)0 -
Thats excellent! clearing_out_my_pockets!!! more the merrier!!! you may just find that sometimes you will come on the thread and browse just for motivation!!!! Had some good surprises this week!!! I received my £100 excess back from a car insurance claim from 2 years ago!!! completely forgot about it!!!!! Then I have received £143 back from a TV licence i paid for one one of my houses where the tenant paid for a duplicate one!!!! bonus!!!!

Ha good for you guys. I spent too much over the past month so I am bearing the limits of my overdraft eek. But this month its no going out month because its Easter in April so no doubt I'll be going out a lot then!
My housemates owe me £170 for bills but I am not expecting them to give that back for a month (by which time it will be £300 odd they owe me!), but being on the limits of my overdraft stops me from spending so I see it as a good (well, try to) thing.0 -
Hi all,
haven't really posted much for a while! Mainly because I didn't actually add anything to my savings this month - due to a wee impromptu holiday! Would say I'm disappointed in myself - but I'd be lying! The holiday was fab, and well needed!
On a plus point though, started my new (second) job at the weekend - turns out we get a £500 payrise in April (only a month into the job - whoo hoo!! :T ) - plus, also turns out I get a 10% premium for any Sunday shifts - which is a bonus since my shifts are all Saturday/Sunday - plus I had budgetted £15 per week travel for getting to/from work at the weekends, and looks as though it's actually only gonna cost me £3.50 - so a result overall!! Just a bit frustrating that it'll obviously take a month or 2 to settle down, before I'll know exactly how much I can save from it - but at least it looks as though it's gonna be more than I thought!
Lokolo your housemates seem to be in permanent debt to you - you're obviously very understanding!

Its my favourite day of the month....payday!
£500 has been automatically swept into my regular saver (Halifax Fixed 5%), and i have manually transfered £500 to my normal savings account (ING Direct 3%). I probibly wont be able to save this much next month though
As you can see from my sig, this now puts my total saved so far at 43% of my target. Slowly getting thereMortgage Free 22/03/17
