Blimey, nice company you work for! What do you do for a living?
SuzeLucyTheDwarf wrote: »I thought about applying - but they'd have made my working life hell if they thought I'd looked on a jobs website. Asking for a pay rise generally means you're forced out within a few months. Another colleague wanted a pay rise, a few years back. They promised her she could have one, in 6 months, and talked her into moving departments to a more advanced role, telling her how wonderful it'd be for her career... knowing full well that she'd never fit in with the employees in that department. She was a strong willed girl, but 5 months of constant bullying and loneliness later she left. It's well known that she was engineered out - we all knew when she first told us about her department move, all excited and enthusiastic about it, that they were forcing her out.
My employers would rather go bankrupt, than give in to an employee. There have been people who apply for other jobs, get offered, and ask them to beat it. They generally refuse, and find a way to get that person out within the week, jeopardising their new job with bad references, if they can. I know you're not allowed to give a bad reference, but they've given two in recent months that lost former colleagues their new positions, so they get away with these things! (and the departments the colleagues worked in go really down the pan, because they lose these experienced, competent people, and replace them with cheap 16 year olds who have no knowledge/training/qualifications etc!!! (and no-one left to train them))
Sorry for ranting - I love my job but hate the people I work for, and it's so frustrating that they don't seem to ever learn that they make things harder for themselves by not treating their staff fairly!!!
Anyway - base rate cut - OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can reduce my predicted net income figures nowJust a few weeks ago I was keeping my eyes peeled for a nice instant access account for at least 6%... I should be so lucky

On the plus side, rates falling so sharply suggest that price rises don't seem to be a worry any more. Hopefully our living costs will fall and that should affect our savings positively

You really don't want to know
I had a really rubbish day.
Well... it started last night. Nasty email from my manager. Put on his "I'm an idiot" hat, and sent a stupid email accusing me of lying about what work I had and had not completed. He's known me for over 3 years, and I work my !!!! off for them, he should know by now that I'm not like that. He takes his own stress out on other people - the very people who support him most!
Laid awake ALL night stressing about the email.
Was still mulling over what he said as I drove to a course this morning. The car in front braked suddenly, at the top of a hill - I braked but my wheels locked, and I skidded down the hill (roads were very wet too - great) into the car. Turned out to be my next door neighbour - taking her 5 year old to school. I was rather upset, especially when I saw her rather lovely little boy looking so distressed. They went to A&E, as they had aches, but have no lasting injuries - just told to give the little 'un calpol, and his mother ibuprofen.
I was pretty shook up. Sat on my bed with a cup of coffee, and for no reason at all some books fell off my shelf, and hit my head. Just great. Still have no idea what made them fall - freak accident. I was shaking already, so that kind of made me jump, just a little bit... like 6 foot.
Then I got up, to go next door to check they were okay (this is before they went to A&E)... and promptly fell down the stairs. From the very top to the bottom. I tried to grab hold of the wall on they way down - broke all my beautiful nailsHurt my back, too, but was okay.
Now I'm all aches and pains. Lady next door is fine, and her son thinks Christmas has come early - he got a day off school AND everyone is making a huge fuss about how brave he is AND I bought him sweets and Transformers toys to say sorry for frightening him - he's loving it.
I'm not loving it though. My car is a mess. £300 excess. So much for sticking to budget! And I hurt like hellAnd my car is due its first MOT by tomorrow... fat chance of it passing now, the lights aren't where they were yesterday! No idea what I'm going to do now... my car isn't roadworthy because of the lights. I'm driving it to the approved repairers tomorrow for an estimate - but I can't use it as 1. it wont be safe after dark, 2. it'll have no MOT next week. I need my car to work - I do a lot of travelling, to places that are miles from train and bus stations! And I don't like the idea of forking out up front for taxis, even if I will get the money back next month.

You can actually drive you car on the road without an MOT if you can prove its on its way to get its MOT... so you could say that and you took it to garage and everything!
However *hugs*!0 -

Aw Lucy! *Hugs* your day sounds terrible! it always seems to happen, If you start your day off on a bad foot, the rest of the day just gets worser and worser! Hopefuly you will have a better day tomorrow!0 -
Thank you for the hug. I needed that.
Yeah... it still worries me though. It's a right state. My second claim in a year too, though last time it wasn't my fault. Someone hit my car while it was parked and unattended, and weren't kind enough to leave their particulars. Damage in exactly the same spot too, pretty much identical. So, my savings this year are going to be £600 down on what they could have been.
And I thought I was being money saving by squeezing every last day out of my car before it needed the MOT! At least if I'd had it done a fortnight ago, I wouldn't have the worry of it being smashed up AND un-MOT'd.
And, only last week did I kill my credit cards. They all charge interest now. I haven't applied for a new 0% card this year, because of the state of the economy... didn't want to find myself in the situation of the icesave stoozers... cards to pay off and no access to the funds!Target Cash Net Worth: £25K by January 2012
