Just done the same. Found out one of mine was paying 1.67% net! I'm quite disgusted at myself for letting that one slide through. :o

Moved to a nice new instant access one today.

    Aw awesome man :T

From this month I'm going to be kinda living off my intrest, so i needed it in a half decent account!

Gets me angry when banks get your money and gives you such !!!! intrest!

Aw Nixxx! That's some good going! Must have taken absolutely ages! I spent a few hours reading the first third or so, so you must have taken at least twice that.

Welcome to the forum - what are your savings plans now you've been struck by inspiration lightning?

I took me three evenings of three hour sessions (plus watching sex in the city box set on the side). I have been lurking on these forums for forever.:D

As part of my inspirational drive I had an appointment with Halifax to open the 10% account today. They tried really hard to sell me a stocks and shares ISA even though i just wanted to open the 10% one. I left with nothing open and feel a bit sad about it.

I have maxed out my cash ISA and have also in the process of opening a Barclays 7.5 savings accout (:T ). I'm also going to buy some premium bonds because i love the thrill of a big win.

I'm not saving for anything in general but i do earn a decent amount of money which i've been "wasting" for so long that i have nothing to show for it. (if you call, going on holidays, drinkng:beer: , nights out etc...so i've really enjoyed it as well)

I hope to buy a house in the next couple of years so i need to kick start my savings for that.

I have about £1000 per month to save but i'm sure i can do better than that. Won't really know until i move in with my boyf in the next couple of months.

I still cant believe where my money has been going?!

I'm a bit late with smart saving but i am now determined to have a stash of cash :D

I didn't realise this thread had become so long!

Re Halifax - don't let that put you off. I would ring them up and apply over the phone instead.

    Good luck!

I think you might even be able to apply for the Halifax account online... Though that might be for existing customers only. I have a credit card with them, so I started applying online last night, through the online banking (only to remember that the money I want to use to start off the account, is in a branch only building society account at the moment, so I have to go into town first before I get click happy and start opening accounts!). It is awful that they can push the hard-sell so much as to put someone off... how counter productive is that?!

But, that's sounds like a really good start!

I opened the Kaupthing Edge account a few days back, now it's minimum balance requires is £100. Looking forward to seeing my money grow there :)

I opened a Halifax 10% regular saver! I now have the money sitting in my 6.5% AER Kaupthing Edge account (better than the 5% AER building society account it was sleeping in), ready to be fed £500 pm to the Halifax.

I love the buzz of a new savings account.

    Oooo! Exciting! :T

All my accounts are with Barclays, and i really find it easy having them all in " One Place " but its really tempting too open this Halifax 10% regular saver account!!

You've only got until 20th July!

I used to have all my accounts in the same place (HSBC). But I figured that I was losing a fair bit in interest, just for the added convenience. And to be honest, now I have accounts with HSBC, Kaupthing Edge, Alliance & Leicester, Halifax... it's not very inconvenient, because I operate them all online anyway!

Seeing as you have the cash to fill up the Halifax account, you may as well make the most of it. That's how I see it. It's hassle, but at the end of the day, it earns.
