Very excited about the new house. How long until you will be there? Will you rent out the existing home? More details for us vicarious house buyers please!Paid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!
Still thrifty though, after all these years:D0 -

. You never saw Tilly's reworked villa Alex or you would be praising my architectural drawing skills :rotfl:
What are you implying Gally? You're never saying my drawing on the back of napkins wasn't up to much :eek:

We were hoping to get the house before my birthday at the end of the month (I was expecting Mr GG to wrap it for me) but it's a probate sale and the 'solicitor who has Power of Attorney' doesn't have PoA :doh:so will be Sept before family can come out to sign. It has been empty for a few years and all the wardrobe doors were shut so there is some mildew etc (though we left the doors open when we were there), also a few small bits needing repaired. Need to install a dishwasher as it doesn't have one and replace some very old built in wardrobe doors. Probably best to paint throughout as well - though it's not 'empty', there is a lot of furniture, a fair bit of which we will be keeping, but still easier if we're not living there. Will take a bit of time to empty it/sort out what we want for rental and swap over with our stuff etc. Bedding and towels can go to animal sanctuary. Need to think about utility room - it's just that at present, a room with washing machine, tumble drier (:D) and freezer, no units. Won't do anything hasty with it as there's a slight chance we may replace kitchen (pink units) () (:rotfl:) (not as bad as it sounds) next year so that would be an obvious solution then.

Wow another purchase. How exciting. And a talent for architectural drawings tooMade it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!0 -
So, rather than hijack Tilly's thread, in response to KC's question. Visited our hopefully new house today. It's been shut up for 18 months, fully furnished, with lots of bedding, towels etc in the cupboards and wardrobes, which have all been left closed. There is quite a bit of mildew in the wardrobes on outside walls and also on kitchen units on outside walls and place smells very 'muggy', but not damp. We've left all cupboard doors open and ventilated where we can. This will need to addressed as a priority to stop KC nagging me :rotfl:
Place seemed larger than we remembered (unlike most second viewings when it seems smaller!) and Mr GG agrees a wall needs to come down :T. That can wait though. Priority will be to get the place emptied, aired, dried and painted, plus get a dishwasher fitted, then we'll live there to get a feel for it before knocking about.
There are a lot of electric wall heaters about so we'll try a winter with those before deciding on Log/pellet burner. Though I reserve the right to revisit that decision if I get cold :rotfl:
The outside space is a bit larger than I remembered and there will be a small area (i.e very small) for possible veg. Two orange trees I think, hoping for rain for them soon, and a small pomegranate, complete with small pomegranatesA positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

It sounds ****gorgeous**** Gally! And you really did mean your own mould, not mine :rotfl: Its interesting that even way down the globe as you are, it can get damp and mildewy.
Your own oranges and pomegranates! Yummity yummity yum yum :j2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
All sounds very exciting. So much for the simple life in Spain though! Will you still be accidentally buying houses when you are on your Zimmer frame? I think we all hope so...Paid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!

Don't forget that the first winter in warmer climes you are still adjusting from the norm in Blighty. By winter #2 you will practically be natives ( tho not in the Lord Of The Flies sense...) and will get chilly. Do they do a 4-sided log-burner to put in the middle of the room? Or is that called a bonfire...?NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0

Hey gallygirl! So exciting to hear all about your 'accidental' house purchasing
Is it an older property? Or a newer build - sorry if you've said and I've missed it. I was just wondering with it having a utility, whether that was indicative of an older property - when such useful features were incorporated into houses
Anyway, I just popped on to say that I was minded of you when I read Rhonda-Jean's blog, with her 'weekend reading' selection. I followed her link to a recipe for slow-cooker Korean Sloppy Joes (which may, or may not float your boat), but got distracted on scrolling down the page, by another recipe...... which had sun-drenched, sophisticated entertaining written all over it..... (no, really). Don't know if you've any sophisticated cocktail soirees to cater for in the near future .......
