  • Hi KC, love the photo of your little plug plant.

You sound in such a lovely place at the moment. Things seem to be falling into place.

Thanks Gilly! I don't know why, honestly! If I did, I'd do it again :rotfl:

I've done all the physical stuff I'm going to do before I'm off out .... the little blueberry is almost entirely adrift from its root system ... I wonder if the root system can grow another stalk, or whatever they're called? **several worried smileys""

And the garlic is done too, I'm *sure* I bought that garlic because someone on here said its good on clay soils, but the pack says "sandy light loam" - anything less like my soil would be hard to imagine **more worried smileys** so I've treated the cloves like the blueberry, except instead of ericaceous, I used a mix of ordinary shop-bought compost and a bag of bought topsoil from my previous place, and put them each in a pot of their own - may be too shallow, but I'm not doing it again! No idea if they'll survive, but we'll see. This is why I'm collecting al these leaves! To literally "leaven" the soil :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

ETA - yes, I do know why - its having a garden where I can *do* stuff! :j:j:j

  • Can I ask - do you just put the leaves in a bin bag and leave them there, or do you need to do something with them? I was thinking about this as I swept up leaves and threw them in the bin - mainly because they stink of 'cat'.

Sorry to sound thick, but I don't have a garden as such, so a lot of this is a mystery and I'm interested.

Hi there! Just popped on a few minutes after you asked your question, coincidentally - its about putting them in a black bag, when they're damp/wet, poking a few holes in the plastic (I think thats to let little worms come in and out!) and leaving for about a year. Stinking of cat pee ... hmmm, not nice. I don't know if its good to keep them in that case - OTOH, "humus", the stuff that comes out of compost bins, is basically worm poo, as Alys says .... maybe in a year's time it would be okay? Not wonderful to have it near your house.... I don't know, tbh, I think more research is needed.

I know the leftover chippings I picked up the other day smell very sweet, but I do suspect they have some sort of poo in them too .... fox? They're sitting there in any case. I want lots of composting and recycling in my garden, but I quake a little at integrating that with all the wee and faeces (in case poo is censored) thats out there!

I'll have a little google and let you know .... I think that might turn out to be a post on my blog, thanks!

I'm a little dazed and confuddled this morning - not exactly hung over, but 2 large glasses of wine will have their effect, when you don't drink regularly! But I got a lift to my door, I played a new board game, caught up with old friends, life is good.

Today, once again, I'm not working till 4, but then have 4 contact hours finishing at 9pm. My busiest day this week! So I'll be pootling off to the local pathways to collect more leaves, working on the accounts, and googling about cat wee in leafmould :)

Oh, I forgot you had your games evening last night. A couple of glasses of wine when you're not used to it can have that effect; I tend to fall asleep.

Thanks for that about the leaf mould, I suppose for me, I don't really have the space for stuff that can't earn its keep. A job for DS this week is to clear out the bin shed as I often disturb cats in there; I don't object to them making a home if its cold, but I do object to the smell.

Absolutley - I adore cats, as you know, but that smell is vile, no question. And yes, when you've just got your little courtyard, half a dozen binbags every year is very offputting, when they smell like that ...

Games evenings .... they happen, they do! And we just booked our Christmas meal at a cheap and cheerful Thai place :)

I've been researching cat urine :D

Some detailed comments on Yahoo Answers led me to a blog and website about .... yes, cat urine _pale_ And I've posted comments at a couple of places about this particular issue :rotfl:

All in order to avoid doing anything about my accounts. Okay one more :coffee: a strong one, and I *will* unplug the router, and do my accounts work.

    Okay - I have:
    - prevaricated, dawdled, and generally futzed around wasting hours. This *does* need a list entry all its own :D
    - collected two more bags of leaves.
    - done the emails I needed to do.
    - googled and actually left messages _pale_ about cat urine.
    - done bits of the accounts - aargh, I hate them - no real reason, they're just fiddly - phoning for a missing statement, rejoining a card provider's online service, hunting a lost invoice that can't be printed and sent till Saturday (!!!). That sort of thing.
    - ooh, have got an Amazon sale, so printed off the packing slip, off to hunt for an envelope now, its a big chunky book, but its a big chunky price, comparatively, anyway :D
