Oh dear ... I can't figure out where the html for the quotes should go :rotfl: and I need to be out soon. Never mind .... its just more blather about go-bags. And laptops.

Anyway, I need to go soon - four hour seminar on stuff for work, and cos I'm on the committee, I supposedly have to get there early and help with chairs. We'll see :o Its free, so I'm definitely going, being a good mse-er :D

Otherwise, I'm steadfastly refusing to do anything physical today - I worked hard-for-me on the garden yesterday, and did a bit the day before too, so nothing today, to let my system recuperate.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Have a great day - only half caught up, out in a mo today and it aint pretty out there. yeuclch

    Have fun!

I suppose the only big potential problem round me would be something really big on the train track between London and the south coast, if it was on the bit thats near me, or something equally big at Gatwick - I'm thinking airborne contamination

So what's this train going to throw up in the air? If you're thinking chlorine, phosgene or something similar, then the only thing that helps that would be a complete bunny suit somewhere.

    nbcsuit.jpg

Then it would be a decision of "How likely is this?" vs "How much will it cost in money, time and storage?"

Have a look along your rail track and see if there are any chemical sites. If not, then it's unlikely to be transporting stuff like that, and you can spend your money on the other bunny suit.

    - if you look at 9/11 footage and all that concrete dust

Actually a lot of that was asbestos.

    - concrete is toxic, as Kevin McCloud chatters on about endlessly - might want to have a really good DIY mask ...

He probably means the unreacted stuff which will combine with the water inside your lungs... I'm not sure how and where you're going to get large amounts of concrete dust from. There isn't actually much to railway lines.

A DIY mask is a good idea anyway - they come in handy if you're helping someone clear our their shed.

And thats the one that most concerns me - all my backing up the laptop is useless if the backup is also in the house when it burns down :(

So take a backup onto DVD, label it appropriately, and take it to a friend/relative and get them to keep it. An old backup is better than no backup.

Ooh, now this is interesting too - I just had a look at my external hard drive - its actually about the size of four compact discs in jewel cases ... you know what, with having gathered so much stuff over the years, I'd take that as well as a usb stick round my neck - it has things on it, like my genealogy research and early family photos, that are irreplaceable. As well as a decade of fanfiction :D:D:D

They would all fit on a USB stick. Your Stargate movies however, would not...

I think I mentioned that because of the whole thing about throwing out the fridge freezer, which is what a lot of people do, apparently - as a greenie, its a real waste. In practical terms, I might well empty the fridge, but I'd be more likely to put things in containers that are easily washed (glass or something) and deal with it when I got back.

Or in containers which are cheap and easily chucked. Eat more ice-cream, the containers are handy...

All put into perspective as usual Z - with you on the absolute minimums too :D

My thoughts tend to be that anything non global disaster can be sorted, I'm generally quite resourceful & keep my hard drive in my head, stuff is just that. Even shoes !

Have a good day KC & don't get too worried about disasters. As Marilyn Manson once remarked " The trouble with America is, we are brought up on a diet of fear & consumerism".

Definitely eat more ice cream though ;)

Yeah to full storecupboard and freezer of gluten free goods!!!!! Doesn't it feel fabulous to get nice products at a bargainous price.:j:j:j

Very interested in your use of rice instead of pasta - what sort of things are you making with it - do you just use a standard pasta recipe and substitute rice or are you exploring new recipes???

Off now to do a tally of what's in our freezer and storecupboard & make a mealplan and shopping list!

I don't really *worry* about it - since I love disaster movies, it feels like I'm in my own little disaster movie :o but truly, I don't obsess - I'd already have done it if I did, after all - its one more thought experiment, really :A like the solar shower :)

It really does! It was your alert that meant I could go for it :kisses3:

Oops :o:o:o I don't do recipes I'm still not really cooking :o just heating. While the rice is cooking I throw frozen veg in there too, crumble feta, chuck pesto over it. Or a bean stew. Or quorn fried with onions, or cashews chucked in there somewhere. I aim at eating 20 different foods in one day (pesto counts as one :D) I don't much care how its cooked :o

Thanks Bob! I think you have to pick your time - all that g/f stuff, I was tipped the wink by RT :) I'm very pleased!

I've just got back from my seminar - shattered, but I was with my work partner all day, which was nice, we were passing notes to one another :D, with acquaintanceships solidified and 4 hours CPD under my belt.

Pasta is cooked, low sodium "salt" is here.... yum yum :)

  • A flurry of reading and almost caught up, still not sure why we're planning for a disaster, but I've tidied up just in case, well you never know!

I'm thinking that one of the suits Z recommended might be good in the wind..............................:)

Hope you have a nice evening x

    Dr W here in a mo..........................although I remember you're not keen.

It'll be good *for* wind as it'll come out sans-fragrance... ;)

Best thing I've ever worn in the wind has been a wax jacket.
