Will do, Ellidee, thanks
:kisses3: is it really weird of me that I'm pleased you mistook my thread for Hypno's? :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Huh ... I've just been reading about go-bags, after the experiences Hypno's friends have endured ... per head of population, the USA seems to have more of these disasters than Europe. More hurricanes, more tornadoes (I know we're supposed to have the most in the world - but they must be tiny compared to what the US has); even our earthquakes are usually pretty tiny. There *are* disasters here that need evacuation occasionally, of course. Don't think I'll actually pack a go-bag, but a list of what to take, and what to do, would probably be a real advantage. So, in my trusty shopping cart (they all go on about it being a backpack - might have to tie one on, but I can't carry anything realistically in a backpack): external hard drive. Or computer?; water; emergency food; paperwork; 1 change of clothes; first aid kit; pack of cards; phone, chargers, windup radio, toothbrush and toothpaste. And a list of what to do - turning off gas and electricity is mentioned, as is chucking the contents of the freezer and fridge so that the food doesn't grow into a different life-form.
Dear me. It seems like a disaster movie come to life. Must stop this!2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Have been thinking a lot about that myself and it has motivated me to get on with decluttering/sorting stuff...floods/ house fires come to mind as possible disasters for this country..I just never think about these things as they are rare but guess go bags are common in areas prone to disasters0

Hi! I've never been on this board before so am unsure what it's really about. Being debt free? But reading a few pages of the post it's more like a group of friends chatting over a cup of coffee. You all seem so very clued up and very 'balanced'!!!
Anyway, just wanted to say thanks for the quote 'your life is an occasion. Rise to it' and all the motivating bits and bats I've read. After a very crappy day (hence being unable to sleep at this time and cleaning up the kitchen and bathroom), it's just what I needed to get me out of my feeling sorry for myself mode and getting on with the changes that I need to make.
Thank you!0 -

:hello::hello::hello: Hello whisper! Welcome! The board itself is about *getting* debt free- ahem, then what am I doing here? - truth is, my income slumped just as I took on more "good debt" (a property) and now that I managed to get debt free, its still in a slump, and I have to work v hard at staying debt free. So I'm still here :money: and I've met some lovely people here, who I'm loathe to part with. So you're absolutely right about the group of friends chatting

Thats lovelythank you. I'm glad the quote spoke to you, it certainly did to me
Even doing 15 minutes at something can really help - at least, it can now, for me - the house I moved from last year needed rewiring and replumbing, and 15 minutes felt so useless. But this house is very liberating in that way, and I can make a real difference, tho I'm still chucking things out so I can fit in easily (downsize!!!).
If you look at some of the diaries of the people who post on this thread, you'll meet more amazing people, and they'll lead you on to more. There's always someone willing to help and support you through the tough times.
Welcome :j2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
And today ... hmmm .... 2.5 hours work, but most of that is in the early evening. I'm very tempted to spend 10 minutes taking *one* load of stones and soil out of the patio border .... mustn't overdo it. I did meet up with my friend yesterday, and we had a lovely chat in "town", but my throat suffered a bit, so I still need to be careful. Much better sleep tho! So otherwise, its the odd 15 minutes - scanning, for instance, is easy physically and will pay off results. Or even the go-bag we've been talking about... and setting up a health plan, which would remind me when to take my vitamins etc, would be a good idea too2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Glad you slept better!
15-min jobs today sound ideal.......I seem to get so much more done when I tell myself that it is "only" 15 mins - it just doesn't seem so daunting, therefore I don't tend to put it off.
And of course it is amazing just how much we can achieve in such a small amount of time once we get cracking.

Morning, hope you have a good, and not too strenuous day! I keep reading 'go-bag' as 'grow-bag'.. not the most useful thing to run out of the house withDebt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: erm, no, not really :beer:2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Here I am again ... not asleep, tho its a close-run thing. And I did both the things I said I was going to do before I did my first hour's work - took *one* bag of soil to throw, and scanned half a dozen magazine articles. So, very pleased :j
Had lunch now - and also very pleased that I managed to start eating rice, as opposed to gluten free pasta that has rice and maize in it. The rice is so easy, really, its cheaper, and its organic. No brainer! Tho I need to learn how to measure it, and not use the kitchen scales - the scales are used for stuff from outside, and not washed:o:o so if I put the rice in there, I'd need to start rinsing it, and then I'd *never* use it
Well, anyway .... my Approved Foods order *thanks RT!!!* is about to arrive - between 1342 and 1442 today :rotfl:- good heavens, those people are precise! Lots of gluten free stuff, and lots of dried vegetarian stuff, plus a few things that would be treats if they were normal price, like an aubergine meze.
ETA: good heavens! They've (he's) been and gone - stuff is unpacked, and oh my word, there's such a lot for such a little amount of money :rotfl:the gluten free loaves, for instance, have a 70% reduction! Haven't found their expiry date yet, I suspect *they* might need to go in the freezer. I'm going to celebrate my chomping on gluten free biccies2023: the year I get to buy a car0
