Grand you had a pootle - and yay to a few bargains

Also had a tootle, avoided buying food (yay go me) and having a very non-healthy cuppasoup and crusty reduced bread for lunch.Total debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.
Total debt as of 28/4/19 £7867.38:eek:

Hard plastic isn't as bad as soft plastic, but with feeling bad recently, I'm working on anything I can, as it presents itself. Leaching can be a problem, and since an easy solution presented itself, I took it.
Having the MRI scan was funny - apparently, I'm little!!! Sounds very odd at five feet seven, more or less, but there you go. And I can now confirm I'm *not* claustrophobic
wasn't quite sure. Imagine being strapped into a spacesuit, and watching a sensurround version of Close Encounters of the Third Kind .... thats actually what it was like 2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Hi KC. Hope that you are feeling a little better.
I read an interview with Anastasia a while ago (bear with me its relevant) and she said that her Dr (fancy American name for a cancer specialist - cant remember what) said that some studies had suggested that drinking water from a plastic bottle that had been in the sun/car when hot might have carcinogenic wotsits. Given that she had been on a tour bus drinking lots of water from plastic bottles prior to her breast cancer she thought that could be a contributing factor.

When do you hear about the MRI?
I'd read about that too MrzM -

I saw a report about it, and like you i am not sure 'what is what' with it all.

Well it all depends on things it depends on...
First of all it depends on what the bottle is made of - the three most common plastics are- Polyethylene terephthalate (AKA PET)
- Polycarbonate
- Polyethelene (AKA polythene)
PET breaks down under the presence of water and heat, to produce acetaldehyde which is a carcinogen. It also have various taints from its production such as antimony and phthalates and other little nasties.
Polycarbonate tends to be used in re-usable bottles rather than disposable ones (it's relatively expensive). It too leaches and degrades and releases a nasty called Bisphenol A. You may have see various labels on bottles calling themselves BPA free - that's what they're talking about
Canada has banned BPA, the UK food standards agency says our exposure is perfectly safe. I'm not sure if they're proving it by feeding someone's daughter a beefburger though...
Polythene is usually only used for *really* cheap bottles (19p bottles of lemonade etc) and is actually pretty innocuous. But it's neither fantastically clear, or fantastically tough so "Brands" tend not to like it.
There is also a question around what's IN the bottle. I think this study is great - especially given who performed it.Like all of these things though you have to be aware that scientist change their mind all of the time.
Sometimes in the middle of changing their minds. This is why I tend to look at their data and not their conclusions and make my own mind up. Some studies have conclusions that contradict their data...
Well OK, I'm not actually surprised..."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

How interesting this is! Thanks folks! I've meant to buy inert something-or-other for water bottles for ages, tbh - just never got round to it. Even on a common sense basis (which I know is dangerous) you can *taste* water thats been in a water bottle for too long. I don't want the man-made molecules that are producing that taste being stored in my body, so I've *finally* taken action.
I don't believe what governments say about these sorts of things, either. Governments say there's no difference between organic and non organic food (yahoo carried a link the other day, something like 90% of all potatoes and blueberries have pesticides on them. Spinach too and strawberries have lots too, tho not as much).
Given the dodgy state of my immune system, I'll go above and beyond what the government recommends, assuredly. Tho I couldn't quite force myself to pay £1.09 for 375g of organic cornflakes, when the basics cornflakes go for 31p for 500g. .... ah well. At least I went back to organic ground coffee
Pippi - can't see you, can't hear you, la la la ....
Mrs Moo - I think I have to start asking what the universe is telling me with all this slo-mo illness ....
Bob - glad you liked the MRI description
