Ah yes I remember now we have had this conversation before........... not that I am obsessed with finding mushrooms mind.

Didn't pick the sloes. Luckily I was sidetracked by the lovely hoodies in the park who wanted to play football with Moo. I got to sit on the bench whilst he ran around like a nutter having stolen their ball and they were in hot pursuit. Very funny.

How amazing is that! That sounds so lovely :j

Its tipping it down, I've finally joined the rest of the country .... and I'm off out today, I've got 2 meetings in a neighbouring town. I'm going to get soaked **tears hair out** oh well **philosophises**

When I get back, I'll dig up a bit of the border under the kitchen window, so I can start laying that (useless!) membrane.

Hope you don't get too soggy. Gardening sounds like it's going well. :( to the building site though *has visions of Karma chained to oak tree* (not like that, Z )

I'm the same with mushrooms.. picked them in the past with my parents who know what they're doing, and think I can recognise some but not sure enough. Keep meaning to go on one of those mushroom walks with an expert so we can at least pick a couple of varieties.

Hope that you didn't get too wet KC. Red, yes I looked into a course that is run about 20 miles from me in Mid Wales, lovely area. I am signed up to his newsletter but the course was ........wait for it................£120 for the day:eek: Still that is what I call building a patchwork lifestyle. Good on him if people will pay it I say.

OK then...what's the alternative way of being chained to an oak tree? Inquiring minds need to know...

Garden week ... I should write this stuff down in my diary :o as it happens, it was brilliant - I had a bite to eat after work, then went straight out into the garden - cut back some ivy, dug up some clumps of grass, and planted the two little creeping mint that I bought at Crawley Folk Festival. I'm not sure they're going to make it - they looked dead when I came back from Norfolk, but I watered them anyway, and they've got new growth all over :j but its a question of them surviving the slugs now _pale_

I might try that alternate week trick. I find that I get agitated because I have to stop one job to keep up with another.

And, erm, those damsons are actually sloes, apparently. And they're not ripe yet (tho I picked 220g, oops). I'm soaking them, and we'll see whats what. I've found a recipe for sloe chutney on River Cottage, so I'll have a go, basically, but its for 1kg of sloes, so I might freeze them the same way I've frozen the blackcurrants.

Good idea to freeze some. They used to say leave them till October but seasons seem to be moving forward so probably some time in Sept. If you look at the leaves, you will see the difference from damsons Sloe wine is rather good. 4lb will give you a gallon. Pick from the south side of the bush (they ripen quicker and better) A good indicator for ripeness is when a few start to shrivel and drop.

We're still waiting for the rain.
But how can you know what you want till you get what you want and you see if you like it?

I think your suspicion is right - I remember ages ago when Ground Force provided a victim :D with one, and went back the next year as they did .... it had never grown a thing

You'll be happy to know I was hardly rained on at all :D drizzled on, yes (and no, I'm not a salad either :D:D:D)

This is all your fault :T its Pavlovian now, we all jump to the comment we think you might make.

Sadly, I don't think there's an alternative to being chained to the trees .... the road has already been driven right through the centre of the plot, and the dogwalker I spoke to said the developer had been agitating for years....

And today, I didn't get home till nearly 6pm, didn't really get much chance to get out there and do the patio border thing - meetings took much longer than anticipated, tho one of them was going round Asda with my work partner :D:D:D

    So, some bargains:
    - ibuprofen gel for 99p, likewise tiny silicon cake cases, screw top storage jars and moisturiser :money::j
    - my Asda pesto is now down to 60p from 88p:money: so I bought a 2 disc special edition disc of Cloverfield
    - 500g of glass jarred olives for 54p :D
    - smartprice dark chocolate - its 50% cocoa mass, just like Bourneville, which is apparently what Mary Berry uses. I'm determined to get cooking some time next month  so this will come in handy - and its not actually nice enough for me to eat as is :D:D:D

Stopping now, watching iplayer and starting it all again tomorrow. Without having had to water the plants today :j

Tricia, glad you find the alternate week idea appealing too - I know *exactly* what you mean about stopping one job to keep up with another - its like that in the house, I can't do *that* if I haven't done *this*, but *this* depends on getting *whichever* part from the shop, but I can't go to the shop till XXX - and so it goes!

I think mse is trying to get me tiddled :rotfl: I don't want to make booze, sorry! My new fetish is strong savoury sauces - thats why I like the pesto so much, it was the only (strongest) garnish or whatever that I had for quite a while.
