Morning. Yes very different recycling going on. Where I used to live I had a blue bin for papers/catalogues etc, a green bin for garden waste and a black bin for everything else all part of CT and provided (unless you reported more than one lost/stolen in a year then you had to pay to replace otherwise free). There were bottle banks in every community so easy to take them to every Sunday morning. Here we dont get bins provided, recycling is collected every week and we are given bags for that, this includes, tins, plastics, paper. Other waste is collected fortnightly (no bin provided or bags) and no garden recycling - have to go to tip myself (hences state of garden) and bottle bank is in town so quite a way to drive.

Red - aren't UK Parliament encouraging people to suggest new laws? Here in Wales the public are being encouraged to suggest laws to their Assembly Members as they will be able to put their names in a ballot next Term to propose a new law. Why not give it a go. Mind in Wales there is a Waste Measure that was passed last year and although it sets targets for councils it doesnt have any powers to make them provide equipment.
Oh dear I just cant switch off - best get to work for real.
Have a good day. I like the idea of people day.

The 'funky' comment is great, isn't it! And 'people day' just popped out - I'm sort of using different headspace :D being on here is quite different :D

    Okay, list update:

    - lots of scanning done.
    - simultaneously, accounts separated out again into years, at least :o and the French stuff also separated out. Much, much more work needed before I can even begin to do last year's accounts properly. Good job I'm starting now!
    - washing machine is on.
    - kitchen is tidied, tho I'm *still* not happy about where the bleeping kettle is. I may have to buy another stovetop kettle ....

ETA: just done two more bin bags of ivy clipping, bin is almost full again - even worked through a shower, tho not a downpour :o I've been mentally moaning about my neighbours and the ivy they've let grow at the front, which is affecting the fence.... erm, its not theirs! Its kind of mine, tho I don't want it - so there's another area that needs **doing**, urgently - the front, since the wood is old and being badly affected by the ivy. Cut it *all* back, not just make it presentable, and then, yep, weedkiller.... sorry ....

  • If the ivy is anything like what we have here it will be back at somepoint but at least once it starts growing again you can control it!

Ours membrane was a black stuff with holes in it rather than a fleece. The next time I do it I'll use thick plastic and put stones over the top as it isn't near brickwork and will become part of the drive.
One small step for ME, one giant leap for my family!

We have a wheely bin for the general rubbish (collected every fortnight), a small food waste bag for indoors with a supply of biodegradable bags to line it with and they are transferred to a larger food waste bin outside and collected every week. We have an ENORMOUS white bag to take plastic bottles, collected weekly and we usually have 1 milk bottle in it :rotfl::rotfl:. On the week they collect the general waste, they collect glass and cans and on the alternate week, it's paper - but not cardboard - why?

We take some of our glass bottles to the supermarket recycling points - partly to avoid the embarrassment of having a full crate :o and partly because of the satisfaction of the sound of legitimately smashing bottles  It is a most satisfying experience, only matched by 'running my stick along the railings'.

Garden waste is not acknowledged as existing here.!
But how can you know what you want till you get what you want and you see if you like it?

Oh how could I forget the food waste :)

I am with you on the satisfaction of smashing those bottles. I just had a therapeutic session this evening.

Good luck with the ivy KC

LOL! I did have a moment wondering if anyone would get that! I should have more faith in the Matrix ladies.

Now who else feels the same? Come out of the closet!

Yep, I'm sure it will, but I didn't quite do all I could on it last time, so it took over a bit ... I'll cut it back and use weedkiller this time, as I said

Oh! Okay, that makes sense that the weeds came through ... holes for plants? Holes for weather? This one is weather permeable, as Tricia kind of advises (and I agree) - I'm taking quite a lot of care over this, actually - trying to get down four inches below surface, then stamping it down so there's nothing sharp, then some boring stones that I don't like :D then three inches of slate chips. If anything can get through that lot, its a superbug and we're all doomed :D:D:D

Blimey, the things councils make us do! Insane :p

Loving the link, thanks Tricia! I do love that poem, and how lovely to see her reading it :) thing is, while I love the sentiment, and have been sucked in to conventionality in some ways (buy a house ... get a job ... don't spit in the street - tho I think I'll stick with that one - be Nice) in other ways I've been completely unconventional, and I stick out like a sore thumb :o:o:o especially in the suburb I moved from last year. I know the neighbours talked about me like that, because some of them told me! So its lovely to see the swelling ranks of the red-hat-wearing brigade :j:j:j

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: My own council wheelie bin takes glass, but I know *exactly* what you mean :D:D:D

Thanks for the luck! The binmen have just been, and took everything I wanted them to take, so I'm off again, on the quest to fill the bin :)

I try :p I did a bit more on the paperwork yesterday, but I'm on a Garden Week this week so the focus was clearing that border - its amazing how much space soil takes up once you try to move it!

Today, its 3 hours paid work, in two lots, and some phone calls and emails and printing stuff for work. And plotting for the bank holiday :D and shifting as much soil as I can  including from out of the house - with all the work I've tried to do so far, there's been a little bit of migration :o:o:o :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
