So how is something strong on fannishness, and what is fannishness anyway? (Apart from looking like a fannish...)

This is from Larry's Acknowledgements section at the end of Fallen Angels:

" Of course our story is fiction. Many of the characters are fictional too. But some are based on composites of real people; some are real people with their names changed; and some appear here under their own names. A few have even paid to be in the book! We allowed certain fan charities to auction off the right to play themselves in Fallen Angels. ... Readers who find the action of the book surprising must consider that we have, if anything, tamed down the reactions of organized science fiction fandom had there really been a downed spaceship in a society that hates science and technology. "

Passion. Enthusiasm. **Lust** for the future. Unashamed geekdom. Scientists wearing T shirts saying "Yes, I really am a rocket scientist". All these things are science fiction fandom.

I suppose that's where I'm different - I have no great enthusiasm for stuff I can do. I always feel if I can do it, then there's not all that much to it...

I get more enthused about art and music - I think this stuff is great ( http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/culturepicturegalleries/8415830/More-Bent-Objects-by-Terry-Border-everyday-items-in-extraordinary-situations.html ) for example.

    Thats a good idea, thanks!

They are, they are - the buddleia, tho, is now strewn all over the grass. You know there's something really wrong with a tree when you pull at the trunk and it comes away from the ground in your hand _pale_ very sad. But there's a few florets of green left on the stump, so we'll see. Trouble is, there are also some rotten bits still left on the stump. Which will win?..... right.

The green should overcome.....I heard budleia and here I am :D

I guess I need to write the rest of it, eh?

Oh Z! :grouphug: sorry to hear that. Love what you've linked to - speaking for myself, SF isn't my only enthusiasm - I love Jane Austen, genealogy, my garden, the green movement, ballet, all sorts of things. I am a kind of enthusiastic person tho :)
