Morning All!
JulieJim - Congrats on your OH's new job!
Boobylou - Glad to hear your FIL is improving. My Mum has been having quite a bit of trouble with her heart recently too. They are starting her on some new meds on 14th, for which she has to stay in hospital for a few hours to monitor her reaction to them! Oo err! And there's been talk of a possible pacemaker thingy being fitted too.
Silaquai - Was it you who cleared a loan? I think so. Congrats!!!!!!
And I have just called Virgin, asked for a promotional transfer balance rate, told there were none. Asked to cancel card, then there are two available! lol. First one was 1.9% for 6 months and the second was 2.something for 12 months. Seeing as the I intend to clear the balance before August, I took the first option. Quite a saving on the 24.9% that Halifax are currently charging!
Oh yes, and they decided to throw in some other offers for buying petrol and stuff, and reduced my standard rate from 34.9 to 24.9%! Still high, but 10% decrease is pretty good going I think!
This should knock some time of my debt repayment! Wahooooooo!
Off to update my snowball calculator!
Have a good day all!

A decent result this morning.
I have received a balance transfer offer from Lloyds TSB for 0% for 9 months. I would rather have LOB for about 7% though but I'm not complaining. I have a high limit with Lloyds TSB and a very tiny debt (about £50) which would be able to accommodate the higher interest portions of most of my other debts. There is a 3% transfer fee.
The tricky bit for me is deciding how much to transfer across. How much could I realistically expect to pay back by next November? That's the tricky bit because my standard rate with them is 24.9% and I don't want to end up paying that - or if I do - only on a small amount if I misjudge it a bit.
So of course I will transfer some debt - but how much?
I have until Feb 28th to make the transfer and get the promotional rate.
For the moment, I will settle for only transferring one of the debts - a high interest MBNA one. This is an easy choice because the MBNA debt is actually high interest (like most of MBNA's non promotional rates) and if it were just that debt, it would be repaid by November.
The rest of this I will delay on though. I have an MOT and service being carried out on my van on the 21st. I will see how much that comes to first.
I must also bear in mind that I am starting to leave the part of the year when my income is normally at its lowest so I may well be able to repay at a faster rate than in recent months.
Decisions, decisions !!
N.B. Interest is charged on the BT fee but that's not such a big deal these days because the highest part is repaid first.0 -
