A Payment A Day - Part 10!

So just called to shut it down and have that money winging its way back to me in the next few days as I'd overpaid incase they charged me some more interest, however when having to give my reasons for closing it (applying for a mortgage soon so wanted less available credit) she started spouting about how having available credit on a card is not a bad thing in terms of mortgage applications, and that it would look better than a loan.
Utter balls.
Credit searches, especially for mortgages, are more than just voodoo and look at things like the debt you have, the affordability to you based on personal circumstances and your available credit. I have been meaning to reduce some of my limits for a while as I have £5000 in available overdrafts and £7000 in available credit card balances, which might negatively impact my credit search.
Making regular loan payments that show you can keep up with your commitments is a good thing in my book (Although what an interest rate, yeesh!)
People in retentions departments will say anything to stop you closing your card/loan as they will likely be targetted on doing this!
Balance transferring to pay off a loan isn't always possible, so check with your credit card providers first.
Can you tell I work in financial services?0 -

Thank you so much for thatIn that case I will check the one credit card I'd thought about doing this on, and close the rest down now that they are clear. My loan is a regular payment, and prior to that I had another that was fully paid and settled - they did say that they were happy with the way they were run.
Next thing is keep out of my small £100 overdraft for a couple of months - ALWAYS in it. But I just checked my account and they've changed the rules so now I'll get a £5 charge each month just for going in it. Maybe I'll just get it taken off. Thieving bar stewards! They probably did communicate it and I didn't read it! :heart2:

I now don't use it if I can possibly avoid it as it makes me angry :rotfl:0 -

I finished my packet of smokes today and have decided I might just see how long I can go without buying anymore... I have managed 8 hours so far
Was also inspired to do it by DH almost choking with laughter saying 'You'll never do it...' when I mentioned it. The worst thing anyone can say to me is 'you can't ...' :rotfl:
Nothing like DH or DM saying 'you can't' to make you do something...Bad night on the smokes...will get straight back on the wagon when the phone is charged :T
Thinking of cancelling my Glasgow excursion next week cos one thing I've learnt the past few days (and this could well just be hormonal so might be gone by next week) is that 1/2 a day out of the flat and I'm exhausted and fluidy knees ache like mad....so on the basis I'm due to be away for 2.5 days am I making an admission to the psych unit when I don't need to? Also even though I get one night's YH refunded I KNOW I'll spend in G so again is it worth it - when the priority for the next few months is debt busting?
Thoughts would be appreciated...if I want to see my friends I can always go down for a day/night when a little more well etc...
