What the.....? How many posts can one woman get on her diary in two days??? It's taken me ages to catch up. It all sounds as though you're going great guns. In particular, I hope the tutoring things works out brilliantly for you.

ETA No need to apologise. I didn't mean it as a criticism. :o

:rotfl: Sorry, I've been using this as a sounding board as I've had a new thought about tutoring for the most part. Another question though...when I did MS I claimed £10 for home office use. How much is reasonable to claim for tutoring? I'm not actually tutoring at home, but I will do all my prep here, this will take considerably more time than MS ever did. Thoughts please?

EDIT: I know you didn't...and if you did :p :rotfl:

Hi Twinklie. Glad you're so motivated to get tutoring. I only do primary and usually at my house or the kids houses so not very similar, but when I first started I came across this webpage with some general tutoring tips and advice, some of it you may find useful, here's the link just in case:

I try to keep a basic spreadsheet that I update regularly with costs I incur such as buying books, and keep all the receipts.

Oddly found that webpage yesterday...thanks for passing it on though. Do you have any insurance? Public liability etc? I didn't even think about the cost of buying any books....Doh! I made myself a pretty comprehensive spreadsheet for accounts - I am a proper geek on that score though. How do you advertise summerday?

No, I don't have any insurance. For advertising I have a very small website, and have placed a few simple ads in shops etc, got some work with agencies too though am not so keen on ones that take commission.

before splashing out on insurance it could be worth reading the fine print of your home insurance policy with a fine tooth comb. Many policies include all sorts of legal cover that you don't ever realise you have. Whilst I doubt you'll find public liability cover on there :p, you may find it covers other bases. As you'll be tutoring on school premises, maybe the school's policy would cover you?

on a related note, if you'll be using a laptop, is it covered away from home?

might be worth getting in touch with your union (or at least visiting their website) so see if they can throw up anything you haven't already thought of. I imagine there'd be a fair bit of info on the TES forums too.

Cheers ma dears. Yup my laptop is covered...I know this because it's something we had to check through when sorting insurance for DH when he was moving away. I'm not going to get insurance anyway - I don't even have any clients yet. But I have got as far as ordering a free sim card. GO ME!

Kids did VERY VERY well with their exam results! I'm a very happy bunny. My nephew also did a fab job and has got on to his course at college! :rotfl:

Had to fork out for MOT on car today though...but it passed. :-)
