OBVIOUS ISSUE IS FOOD!!! Although it does also include £60 per month on Belles food as well - plus her flea and wormer stuff.

    Extra Information
For those of you that haven't read my thread before DH and I are having to run two houses - one we own with a mortgage and one we rent whilst he is doing his PhD. So some of the bills are based on what we spend on both houses - makes it more complicated to work out where we are overspending but I'm too lazy to break it down further.

Oh and randomly - no real connection to my SOA. I got my student loan yearly statement through. I owe £23.5K now...it's coming down. :D

I've just noticed I've not factored in traveling costs for DH and I to see each other every month or for his scooter insurance etc. DOH! No doubt there are a few other bits I've missed as well. Brain....please kick in. :D

is DH's income listed what he current gets including DJ money, or what you have coming in once DJ money is out of the equation?

RE Belle's food and worming stuff, can you get it cheaper online and/or by buying in bulk?

do you colour your hair? £30/month seems high for getting your mop done (and i'm used to paying toni and guy prices)! that said, maybe i'm spolit with a low hair budget because my OH is baldy and my hairdresser does such a good job I can get away with going every 3-4 months instead of every 6-8 weeks.

otherwise i cant see any huge extravagances there, just the high cost of having to run two homes. Think of all those OPs you'll be able to make when DH is home full time :j

The SOA is after taking DH's DJ money out, thats just his PhD funding. As for Belles food, we do buy it in bulk online but she's nearly 7 stone and eats A LOT! She's just a big expensive breed. Plus we have to buy her specialist large breed food due to the issues with her joints that we had early on. I'm reluctant to change it because since she's been on this diet she's been indestructible - she's my extravagance. :D Also that £60 pays for any treats we get her for stuffing her kongs etc whilst I'm at work (a necessary evil).

Yes I colour my hair (every 7 weeks), I have to wash it every day as well because unfortunately I've been blessed with VERY VERY greasy hair (I also only colour my hair because it makes it look less greasy...ha ha). Unfortunately I have to buy medicated hair products as well because I get psoriasis and eczema on my scalp as well, and EVERYTHING makes it flair up! :( It's quite funny that my hair is very oily but my scalp is VERY dry!!! Typical me, I like to be difficult.

I have tried to factor in my prescriptions/flu stuff/cough syrups into the medical amounts - but thats so varied. It can be much more than that if I have a particularly bad month....I assume the shortfall though would be made up in the grocery amount. We often don't spend £300...I've just put that to take into account alcohol buys as well. I usually have a bottle of wine over the weekend to get over the week at school! :rotfl: But that can go if needs be.

One moneysaving tip I have is to use the Mooncup. I must have saved a fortune using that rather than buying feminine hygiene products.

trust you to be difficult :p:D

it's a shame you can't get your prescriptions here in wales as they'd be free then. Fairly certain you have to live here yourself to qualify though.

would a prescription prepayment certificate save you money? Especially if, for example, you know you have flair ups in one particular season?

will your GP prescribe any of the cold/flu/cough/sore throat type stuff? (or does it work out cheaper to buy over the counter? If so, have you tried places like Home Bargains?)

can you/do get you medicated shampoo etc on prescription? if so, between that and the meds for when your chest plays up i'm fairly certain you would save money with one of those prepay certificates.

as for giving up the wine  buy some soap and rinse out your mouth :naughty: :rotfl:

:rotfl: A teachers best medicine that wine isn't it! :rotfl:

Yeah, it works out cheaper to buy most of my stuff over the counter - just the antibiotics really that need the prescription. Shampoos are cheaper without a prescription as well. But I do buy a prepay certificate once the flare ups start. But only since this winter past - my new GP told me about them, didn't know anything about them until then!!! And yeah we looked into the prescriptions in Wales thing. DH can get free ones, I can't. I'm not registered at a Welsh address. DOH! :(

That said never crossed my mind to stock up on meds in Home Bargins, or even the pound shop in town!!! What a good idea. OMG...it's funny how you just don't think of really obvious stuff isn't it? Thanks for that honey.

stocking up on the flu stuff is on my winter prep checklist. whilst i understand the reason behind the law, it does annoy me that you can only buy so many paracetamol products in one go. it's a !!!!!! if you're just trying to stock the medicine cupboard for winter. If i really wanted to top myself, i doubt lemsip (well, shop's own but you get my drift ;) ) would be my tool of choice!

asda and tesco are normally quite reasonable for their own versions of the big labels. I just check the active ingredients are the same and plump for the cheapest.
