    What do you teach?
The discussions about exam boards reminded me that I got accepted to mark for EdExcel, although they aren't promising me any work. Apparently you only earn between £400 and £700 per session. I'm a bit gutted though because I earnt over 1K when I did SAT's marking. :(

I wish from a financial point of view they hadn't scrapped the SATs...they were a pain in the bum to mark though. Which exam board is the best payer I wonder? I assume A Level pays more than GCSE as well.

I have heard that AQA pay the best. My friend used to mark for Edexcel and she said they weren't great in terms of pay and weren't very organised.

If you have time there are opportunities to mark as much as you can until they haven't got any more papers left!;)

But how? I should have lots of time......in theory. :rotfl:

Have you applied to mark a shortage subject with an exam board? You are more likely to get offers of marking then. I have marked for ages now - and theres always loads left after each exam period and its basically fastest fingers first to get them marked. I get exam marking nausea though after a while......!:p

:rotfl: Thanks...I guess it's a shortage subject. I imagine the changes in the curriculum mean over the next few years they'll need more and more exam markers. I can think of better things to do with my time...but needs must.

Just seen your subject is Science - all the exam boards state on their websites what they have vacancies in - there are Science opportunities at AQA at the moment by the looks of things: http://web.aqa.org.uk/over/vacexp_vacancy.php I mark A Level papers - pays much better and also twice a year!!!:D

I mark for AQA - I have heard that they pay the best. My friend used to mark for Edexcel and she said they weren't great in terms of pay and weren't very organised. I did coursework moderation once - never again - I ended up having to chase centres for late coursework - and you don't get paid for that - it was a real hassle and for a session I only ended up with around £450! Last summer our marking went on longer and I earnt around £1500 before tax. If you have time there are opportunities to mark as much as you can until they haven't got any more papers left!;)

I have done coursework moderation for AQA and they were a complete shower. I guess it depends which subject you are in.

Twinklie there was one woman in charge of the moderation when I did it, she was less than competent and somewhat short of fabulous in her character, attitude, integrity and niceness too.

If you get accepted I will pm you her name, and if she is still in charge, run a mile....and this isn't sour grapes, they still offer me work every year, but I am putting it off until I am sure she has gone:eek:

I couldn't moderate...it does my head in!! I'll exam mark though - but thanks for the pm offer grateful. I'll have to apply for AQA science as well then it looks like. I've applied for Psychology already.

Yeah...I don't have the mental strength to not be driven mad by it...regardless of the money. I find coursework marking for my own classes difficult enough!! It always makes me sleepy.
