me too!! it is scary when you think about it!! may be getting another 12hours of work a week too soon!!! its just a shame the pay didnt reflect this!! I get £6.84 an hour for second job - but get tax heavily on it as its my 2nd job!! also when i do 24hours work at a time im actually only paid for 12 when you work it out which is a real cheek!! for a 24hr period i get paid a set amount of £90.59 (£72.39 after tax) but hey ho!!

You can call them and say you may have paid too much tax - they will then check and if you have send you a cheque out.

Mr F called them a couple of years ago as he hadn't worked for the full tax year and he got £600 back :money:

  • Hello everyone,
We're never a dull bunch in here are we? All these popping ears and house sales and such.
Today has been hectic. It was supposed to be a day off for my OH and we were going to be doing lots of family type things but we ended up getting a fabulous offer of a load of stock for OH's shop and we just couldn't pass it up! So most of today has been elbow deep in the most disgusting house you can imagine looking for salvagable bits. We are really chuffed with what we have found though!!!
After a hard afternoons work we almost succumed to the temptation of a tasty takeaway but our inner MSE angel spoke to us and we splashed out on a pizza and some garlic bread in Aldi instead.
So far this evening I have managed to finish the knitted bonnet I was making and almost finish my first bootie. Go me!!! I intend to pop them in my FaceBook shop once they are done. You can find my shop by searching Fool for Wool on FB. The profile pic is of my DD eating some wool lol.

I'm tempted to hop in the bath in a mo, OH treated me to some Avon bubblebath from the clearance booklet. Its Candy scented and it smells devine!!!!

If Inland Revenue have to issue a tax code to more than one 'employer' (term used loosely, as in my case one is a penion provider), then they generally apply your personal tax code to one and set the other to 'BR' (basic rate) which means you're taxed at basic rate on every penny they pay you.

IF (and only if) the income from the place with the code using your allowance is less than your personal allowance (so you never pay any tax on that income), then you can get a partial rebate on the tax paid on the second income.

BUT if the combined income is more than you're entitled to at basic rate (plus personal allowance), they can also bill you for the extra which should be in a higher tax bracket (but it's better to be honest about it now, than have you calling for a lump sum payment in 3 or 4 years time)
