Minnie and rubytuesday - I love reading my well thumbed series of the Little House on the Prairie books and Ma always said "Oh my days"!! What does that mean exactly? Pa had some great sayings like "Jumping Jiminy".

My dear Mum never swore in her youth, but as she got older she'd say things like "blood on my finger" rather than bl**dy. This then got shortened to blood-finger (a bit like Goldfinger I suppose!) and then "finger", which sounded very odd to passers-by!

Fresian / Silva - thanks, some great tips there ... will have another bash at it over the next few days! I'm hoping to move into a Business Analyst type role (which is basically what I'm doing now) but it just doesn't tie in AT ALL with my job title of Administrator (and is what I'm worrying the prospective employers will focus on)!

to add my two pennorth. I used to work in IT and read a lot of cv's when we were recruiting. False modesty and overblown hyperbole are both irritating when sifting through piles of paper searching for those you have time to interview. What I wanted was a succinct, easily read bit about what they were good at and their technical skills. Then if I wanted to see more, an expansion on that further down

for some reason, writing it in the third person seems to work well, and I changed mine to be like that (work from home now, so don't need a cv any more)

when writing in the third person, it is much easier to 'puff' achievements, and say how good you are at something. Maybe something to do with our British dislike of people showing off

I would change the top part of the cv to reflect the skills and characteristics for the job I was applying for, so would emphasise different things. If applying for a management heavy job, I would emphasise that part of what I could do, if applying for a more technical role, I would emphasise the technical skills.

this is some of the top part of my cv to show what I mean

For the last 7 years, Lesley has been working from home. She is adept at Word, Excel and Powerpoint and has a flexible and can-do approach to most things.

    Profile
In recent years, Lesley has accumulated a vast wealth of experience in property lettings and she can handle all aspects from property and tenant selection through to Section 8/21 evictions via costing and overseeing maintenance.

An experienced project manager with an unflappable, flexible and pragmatic approach. Accustomed to picking up variously sized projects, early, mid or late on and hitting the ground running. Lesley’s skill mix is unusual in that it includes both the technical side and the softer, people side.

Lesley's career in IT progressed through roles of increasing responsibility, through which she sought a challenge and an opportunity to make a significant contribution. I.T. Professional 1985 – 2001 when she worked on Personal and Corporate Medical Health Insurance to include Sales and Marketing, Customer Service, Claims, Registration and Accounts, Corporate and Personal New Business, Printing etc. Logistics and Forwarding with particular reference to Air

    good luck
  • Lesley Gaye - I'd give you the job immediately! Your profile was crammed-full with relevant information, but succinct and superbly presented. It would enable any prospective employer to rapidly form a mental picture of your skills and suitability for the post.

In fact I feel an ode coming on .......

Lesley Gaye - you are a star,
Your skills are great and you'll go far

Your super profile made my day
You've got the job Ms Lesley Gaye!!!

SS just love your ode. XXX

Thank you for all your kind thoughts even if I do feel a bit guilty for mentioning it. We all have our stories to tell, thats life and guilt is a useless emotion anyway. XX E

anyone know if baxters lentl soup is on special anywhere need to stock my cupboards as i might be going in to hospital and want to make sure oh has plenty for kids .that and meatballs lol.oh and heinz tomato .
going to try and tidy and put all the clothes away so he can find pants ect for them ,anything else you think i should do .
interestingly apart from a little bit of a sore tummy sort of initial contractions lol i feel ok she seems to think in the very near future as in next couple of weeks i will have a hysterectomy ,i went in with a urine infection or so i thought.
so anything else you think i should have in for him will be appreciated

What I did for my DH and DS1 when I went in to have DS2 c-section, was to put a full days clothes in a carrier bag then hang that from a coat hanger in the cupboard, I did that for 7 days worth, so all he had to do was grab any carrier and just get DS1 dressed. No mismatched tops & bottoms etc. I also left a separate bag with just pjs in.
Now admittedly DS1 was 3½ at the time so knew where to get some things from but this made it alot easier.

Foodwise all he wanted was some bags of mince beef, usual veggies, potatoes, eggs and bread in the freezer. I knew he would be alright cooking it was the clothes I was more bothered about.
    My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)
Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
    So we’re empty nesters.
    Daughter married with 3 boys (12, 9 & 5).

    Ha ha that's funny!
Interesting about ''Oh my days being in The Little House On The Prairie series. I don't remember that I always thought it was a more recent expression as it's very popular with the young kids round here.

hey everyone, i hope you're all ok? i had a NSD - feelign really down but managed to avoid the charity and cheep shops at lunch = went instead to a posh jewlers to look at the pretties, was distracting so good and sorta cheered me up but in a slightly empty way.

Flying Fresian - your CV advice is invaluable... as is others contributions. V kind of you to give real examples Lesley.

hope you're feelign less under the weather Ruby?

good luck miniie with your re-dedication to the challenge!

well the summons to HR was for the BIG R notice... though as the real woman couldnt attend i got a lovely lacky, so i havent actually had the letter but must consider myself On Notice anyway.
i just love my job and the people there and i'm good at it but its really specialised, so i just have so much trouble thinking of what else i could do.
So i've 12 weeks left - i had thought they'd let me go at the end of March, so it's more employment than i thought, which will make the SoW happy re my car expenses ect so i really cant complain too much. i'm realieved to actually know, and although i saw it comming i feel so deflated.
Relax, Breathe, Love 2014 Challenges:Cross Stitch Cafe Challenger 23. Frugal Living Challenger. No buying cleaning products. I used MSE advice to reduce my car insurance from 550 to 325!! & paid it off in full!!!

Thanks 23rdspiral! Seem to be feeling worse I'm afraid!

Another NSD for me too. I made a nice chickpea dip for my lunch hummusish but unfortunately I forgot to put the seal in the blender and all the lemon juice poured out then I undid it and all the chick peas went everywhere! Nice though.

Hope you perk up soon - sorry about your news x
