i work in a museum and love it, but am for the chop with govt cutbacks
Thanks I know i will love it there as it combines my love of history and what i'm trained in admin / customer service
It is tough at the momment I heard that the local airport ( southampton ) had a careers fair to promote 100 new jobs over 5000 people turned up
when you finish work the best advise i had was keep you cv up to date, and apply for anything that you can do even if if the job description says you can only do 80% still worth a go also think about voluntary work ( even a couple of hours a week ) can look good on a cv
also keep in touch with us on the forum after all we all support each other - what ever the situation someone will be able to help
Youngmummy : my thoughts are with you loosing a pet is bad at the best of times.Emma :hello:0 -

I'm convinced one reason I got the job I have now was the fact I'd been doing voluntary work at the school for 7 of the 11 months I'd been out of work. And given I'd gone from an IT background to running around after children of 3-4 years old, I think it also demonstrated that I could (and would) cope with a totally different job environment and manage being much lower down the 'pecking order'Cheryl0 -
Today was aiming for a LSD, got a few bargains in the charity shops, card making supplies and a present to put away....
Then had to take youngest to the dentist........ no NHS providers around here... so his lack of toothbrushing (yes he's been encouraged/berated etc etc) in his early teenage years, has set me back £48 today
Anyone know, why carrots kept in a fridge, start to go slimey/gloopy? Something to do with my storage, or how it was stored pre supermarket?
Going to take a lot of thrift to claw back that £48
But it's also encouraging, I can do it! (I hope!)The mind is like a parachute. It doesn't work unless it's open0 -

Evening everyone
Well I have started up with a very throaty cough and dont feel too great this afternoon cos of that, not sure where this has come from!
I have been motivated today. I have fnially written to the bank and posted it, asking for my savings and giving them the gumph they needed. I emailed the local council to see ift here is any leniency on my summons ( paperwork didnt come through today anyway..) Heres hoping!
I have paid up the council tax as of end of march and I will pay the rest when my savings come through. ( so that was 600 and odd pounds) gone like that!
My shoes came from debenhams sale for 8.00odd they are too big and hav to go back so refund there- still have a top to take back there was well , so that is another 20.00 back altogether ( ish)
Have had more consumer pulsing going on, so I am very close to 20 quids worth of vouchers this week, adn maybe a tenners next week. Fairly likely that i will go for NEXT vouchers this time, as they do nice xmas stuff and you can get great bargains in the clearance outlets whenever we go. I still have 10.00 of waterstones in case I need a book next term.
In terms of the "very" gift card, OH ordered some super bargin work trews yesterday and he will give me the cash out of his clothing budget for the year so that is a good move. However, we wil wait adn see what goes back beofre he hands it over!
I also did quite a big order from House of fraser sale (over 90 quid) got some lovely things although most willl prob go back, but work jumpers were 10 and they look nice quality compared to the DP specials I usually get for 10.00! Have recieved news from my placement and I will definately be starting so these smart clothes are much needed.
Have finally solved the spreadsheet issues and am plodding on and putting everything in all over again
dinner from stores tonight , bangers and mash. Tomorrow we are off home for the day/night so shouldnt have to spend much doshMust not buy overpriced snacks on the train! it is only an hour and half hardly going to starve lol
MSE down tomorrow so hope everyone has a frugal day . Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
I have just had a long over due clear out and clean of one of the kitchen cupboards. Thank God for Cif! I am a rather slovenly 'housewife' I'm afraid and have a fridge magnet which reads 'Dull Women Have Immaculate Houses' so I tend to apply that premise enthusiastically! I found the ladle to my punch bowl I was looking for for girlie's 18th, so now I can use it for my 50th next year if I decide to have a party, as I will make Ainsley's Mum's Rum Punch which is wicked! I also found a clip lock box I didn't know I had, so that was exciting!
I have put on a Hugo Boss men's woollen gilet I found (washed of course) and turned off the central heating. The girl did shriek 'what the hell are you wearing as she went off galavanting but I don't care! :rotfl:Gonna put it back on soon though it's getting chilly again! Here dead we lie because we did not choose

Evening all
NSD so far in Fresian Towers but I'm about to head to the pictures, so we'll see if I can resist the ice-cream twice in two days!
Lunch was pasta n' sauce again (dull but effective) and dinner was chilli from the freezer.
I've taken more mince out of the freezer today as I'm going to batch-cook some bolognaise tomorrow. I've been really light on grocery spends this week, mainly because I've been avoiding the supermarket. I was going to go after work but decided that if I did that I would spend money I didn't need to so resisted :A I'm going to need to go tomorrow though as we're low on bread and milk and have run out of fruit. I'm not going anywhere until I've written a list and done a menu plan though!0 -
