    Totally off topic here, but,

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all.

I hope the new year brings you all you could wish for, including a trip to Vegas.

Same to you and all the fine folks here...and as Luci says, not long until we can say we're going to Vegsa 'next month'...even if AA just emailed about a schedule change that will push our arrival in Vegas to 10pm. :( And yes, calling tomorrow to see about options! :)
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

This is probably the best place, but the prices have gone up from what they used to be. I think the Michael Jackson show is only on in December.

** Edit - sorry, missed the posts above.
  • hi, just looking for some advice
we are planning our honeymoon for august or september 2012 - we are flexible and could even do October if the flights were a lot cheaper.
I was going to get either the tesco clubcard or the ba credit card, but I cant work out which gives more BA miles.
Can anyone help me out? Ideally our honeymoon budget is £2k, but cheapest flights are coming in at approx £1600 for the 2 of us.
    Thanks

Hi, Im going to vegas in Jan for 6 nights, and have just started considering hiring a car and driving from The Las Vegas Strip to The Grand Canyon. There seem to be a few options:

    West Rim 3hrs each way
    South Rim 4.5hrs each way

One Day trip - or arrange accomodation and do it in 2 days.

How cheap is a nights accomodation at/near the canyon

Car hire seems really cheap for 2 days through dollar car hire where i can Pick the car up at TI at 13.00 on 19/01 have the car for 2 days and drop the car at the Airport at 13.00 on 21/01 when i leave for £41.

Any advice would be appreciated on, how best to do this, directions, things to see on route, what else to do with car hire, hotel parking - found roosandmore & gspawn i wouldnt mind seeing on a separate day to canyon obviously.

    Thanks

  • Hello!

I am so confused, opinions please!

Hubby and I want to go to Vegas at the end of January, specifically I am looking at flying on Sunday 22 Jan from Manchester and returning on Thursday 26 Jan.

The flights I am looking at are currently showing at £1969.70 EACH on the Virgin Atlantic website (goodness only know why, they are economy). But some web searching tells me that Virgin often have a sale starting on 2nd January.

Today I have found a holiday with Virgin Holidays on those dates at Planet Hollywood for £715 each - obviously totalling less for the two of us than one flight at the current advertised prices.

So do I book the holiday or sit it out and hope that there is a sale next week and that my stupidly expensive flights are miraculously reduced to an acceptable level?

    What would you do?

I personally wouldn't do the South Rim of the GC in a day, it is a long old drive and it it can be very cold/icy/snowy at that time of year.

We drove and stopped at The Grand Hotel, just outside the GC National Park, which I would recommend:

There is a lovely bar in the hotel that has saddles as bar stools and there was native american dancing in the restaurant in the evening.

We drove out on Day 1, found the hotel, went to see the iMax show in the afternoon and then got up nice and early to go into the park.

I haven't done the West rim, but have heard mediocre reviews. The North Rim is my favourite but you probably can't do it in January.

Make sure you take coats, hats and gloves - it is cold there at that time of year!

Hi thanks for your reply, im a bit confused. Ive read there is North, West & South. North is very remote, and is closed due to weather during the Winter, The South is considered the "real" canyon but is further away. Are you suggesting even if i get a hotel for the night that the south is still not worth visiting over the West which is much closer?

    Thanks

Sorry to confuse you Carl, I meant that I think the south is too far to go in a single day, although lots of people do. I would absolutely visit if you can, it is a breathtaking place (I have been 4 times and will return).

I have never visited the West, that is the section that is on the Indian reservation that you have to pay to get into. The skywalk is there if you fancied that. I have heard that the views aren't as great there as at the South or the North...but can only base that on hearsay.

Thanks very much, i was being a bit stupid, once i looked up the hotel you recommended i understood what you were saying. I think that is what we will do then, hire a car and drive out to South Canyon, stay the night and then have more time at the canyon. Have you driven every time, and are there sights to take in on route? I believe i will pass hoover dam for 1?

    Thanks again
