It's very quiet on this thread. Is everyone out Xmas shopping?
I just finished my Xmas shopping this morning with a trip for two people on American Airlines to SFO, then flying back 16 days later from somewhere called LAS :)

... shame i've gotta wait so long for it! AA prices (non-sale period) had dropped by £200 though and although its not as low as i'd like, they are pretty well priced (but more expensive than any other year :( )

Booked directly through AA too which means I was able to upgrade to preferred seats :) added a few quid on to the total price but meant that when we're on a plane that seats 3 either side, we've bagged the exit row :) bliss - should keep the missus happy!

Just going over next week's trip and thinking about adding another night somewhere on way back from Grand Canyon to Las Vegas (already staying one night at Grand Canyon) but we don't fancy doing the 5 hour drive back to Vegas in one hit.

Can anybody recommend somewhere to stay about 2-3 hours from Grand Canyon on way back to Vegas please?

Laughlin, maybe...may not quite fit your timings, but might.

Have you had a look at the Platinum Challange? $200 fee but after you finish your trip you become AA Plat. Which gets you loads of goodies, extra luggage allowance, prefered seat choice, fast track, lounge access, too name a few. Only one of you have to do it as your partner will get all the same privileges if traveling with you. And after your Plat runs out you soft land down to Gold for the next year. It all depends on the ticket class you booked, have a look on the flyer talk AAdvantage forum
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

Had already looked but am 'O' class (0.5 points) unfortunately... I was toying with phoning them to see what the difference was pricewise (prior to booking)... next year perhaps :D - from playing around on AA previously, I recall you could choose booking class (or have options anyways) but it was a like it or lump it 'O' class this time, either cos i'm senile and not remembering the situation properly, or because its a quirk of doing a 'multicity' trip :)

    Hi All,

Im off to Vegas in Jan with my Wife, its our second time out there. Were staying centre strip in Paris for 6 nights. When we went the first time we did lots of the free stuff, explored all of the hotels, fremont st, fountains, volcano, malls etc. We Saw Jersey Boys, and ate at some of the nice restaurants. This time we want to do the Grand Canyon (not drive) and See a Cirque de Soleil show, maybe, elvis, beatles or the new Jackson one. Can anyone recommend anything else we should see or do while there, and any advice on cheap tickets for Cirque show? We have a 2 for 1 offer on Canyon tours through Pappilon tours (offer when booking Paris through lastminute.com)

    Thanks

    Carl

I phoned AA to see what the lowest class ticket I could buy to to get 1QP for our last trip and it was £1000 a ticket more. Quite honestly the Plat challenge is dead in the water unless you are going to do a couple of TATL's in 3 months

Similar thing happened to us, so we scrapped the idea and booked our tickets...not long after we were looking at the confirmation and realised that somehow 3 of the 4 legs of the return journey were in fare classes that qualified for 1 q-point per mile...and worked out the mileage and had about 150 miles to spare...immediately on the phone!

Our gold finishes early next year...sad...going to try again as it has been soooo nice...even without the unexpected business upgrade LHR to ORD that one time. :)

Worth calling and asking as AA give you 24 hours to make changes once you've booked if done direct. I've done this a couple of times -and it only cost a little bit more to change class despite aa.com claiming otherwise.

OK I have left this really late, but trying to sort out car hire for the 30th of Dec till the 3rd of Jan and the cheapest I can get is Auto Europe. For a compact it is coming out at £100!! I can get 7% off with Quidco but still. Should have done it last week I know when it was £50, kicking myself now. Anyone get anything cheaper let me know. We may do the unthinkable and get taxis!!!!!!!
