I love swede and carrots. Quite like sprouts, so long as they aren't overcooked. Beetroot is awesome. Beetroot chutney is extremely awesome.

Back on track - we haven't done NYE or 4th July, but have experienced most other USA holidays. It will be our eighth Veterans day this weekend.

To cheer myself up after a pretty bloody day yesterday and a less than succesful tilt at the Breeders cup at the weekend, I had a look at some dates for next year.

It could be late in the year for a trip over unless I get a snap opportunity just after Easter.

I intend to be in LA the weekend of the 2nd/ 3rd November as the Breeders cup is back in Santa Anita. It will be a long weekend staying in the Commerce and playing poker in the worlds largest poker club, mix that with 2 days at Santa Anita makes it a lock for me.

My thinking is to preferably fly into LA on the Thursday and leave on the Tuesday, head over to Laughlin for 3 or 4 days and then into LV for the last week (or maybe longer).

It also means I will probably be there for veterans day and possibly Thanksgiving.

The only trouble for me is it's a year away, if I can last that long.

I used to gamble on the horses, until I got friendly with a newmarket trainer and realised the errors of my ways.

Having said that I have been to Santa Anita a couple of times.WOW what a racecourse! That stand is enormous

Pardon me for butting in :)

Does anyone have any idea where I can find a breakfast menu and price list for MOzen restaurant at Mandarin Oriental please? Or if anyone has been and can tell me.....

I have checked their website, Googled and searched all the places I can think of and can't find one. Am wondering how much breakfast will be for a week at M.O and if its better to take their B and B offer online or to pay every day whilst we're there.

    Thanks for anyone's help :T

Yes an amazing place, I was there on Paddy's day and the big fountain outside near the Seabicuit statue was green.

But just as amazing, when compared to racing here was it was $10 to park and $10 to get in, prices of food etc are reasonable.

Don't sit next to a friendly Mexican family with whom I had a fun day, they insisted I joined in with them on their picnic spread, the food was nice until I had a wrap/ burrito thingy it had a red tomato paste in it, but it wasn't, I spent the next 2 days drinking youghurt, I think I had a mini Chernobil in my tummy!

Not found a menu, but various trip reports suggest breakfast for 2 running at about $70-$80. It may be that the B&B offer may not offer the full menu?

Just booked my hotels for my 7 nights in March.

    2 comp nights at Orleans

and then 5 nights at Ballys (never been there before) but got 3 nights comped so thought I would try, so only having to pay for the fri and sat nights...total of $280 for 7 nights.

Just a heads up about using total rewards, altho I guess most of you know it already

I tried my card and didnt get any comp offers, I then tried my wifes card (I dont think it has even been used) and didnt get any comp offers.

I then put both our cards in together and got comp nights at Ballys, and Rio for our dates and various other comp nights for other dates

We find the comps vary doing this too...in our case, in general...my husband on his own, without me as a companion but showing 2 people on the reservation is cheaper than if we put me as his companion and show both our TR numbers on the booking. I am a liability it seems...it would be cheaper for him to take some random person off the street than me! :( Still, when that happens, we just don't list my TR number on the reservation...doesn't keep him from gloating though.

It also changes so much - we've been checking our dates for Feb for about a month - think we have checked 3x and kept track of what the options are - for just him, for just me, for him+me, different combinations...and it's amazing how much it varies...we were considering Caesars at first as we could get a decent deal there - not great, more than we would normally spend, but thought maybe we would go for it...now it's waaaay more expensive than it was. Ballys was originally showing no availability at all for one of our nights, now it is. I think last time I checked Paris was free for 8 nights when it wasn't before...etc...really surprised how much it varies.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?
