my first time in vegas i was warned on this forum not to stay at circus circus but i was saying i won't be in my room etc etc it doesn't matter..how wrong was i...i don't know if u remember but i got mugged outside the hotel 10:30pm at night..
I wouldn't stay anywhere past the wynn personally..i have stayed at excalibur which i thought was fine as we had kids with us..i would stay at hooters if i was on a budget it was $20 a night recently..it's off strip but it's ok..beats circus circus.
I just think it's the wrong end of town.

My advice for anyone going is to NOT stay in CIRCUS CIRCUS. It is an absolute dump, rooms are outdated and smell. We did not feel safe in this hotel and did not sleep due to noisy people up and down the corridors all night. We only booked there due to it being cheap-and we learned a lesson that you do get what you pay for in life.

I think that is way over the top. One of the towers has just been refurbed so thats the one to ask for, rooms are good and cheap.

I have never had a problem with the area.

AND you can get noisy people in any hotel. I have been kept awake at many hotels in Vegas especially at weekends when all the youngsters come to town

If you read vegaschatter (great site) they did there top five budget rooms in Vegas and CC came top

    http://www.vegaschatter.com/story/2010/7/29/121634/192/vegas-travel/The_Five_Best_Budget_Hotel_Rooms_In_Vegas

Having said all of that I still wouldnt stay there as there are better option for very little extra, just dont think it deserves all the negative vibes it gets on here

Did anyone notice that the $25 restaurant.com cert for Stripburger now costs $20 without the discount? There were some available on the 1st when I checked, but I decided against it as I already have one for our next trip.

I didn't notice as I was using a gift card balance (so $25 gift card balance buys a $25 certificate)...thanks for the heads up - good to know...still probably a good deal for us as we really love the place, but maybe more reason to go the route of buying a r.com gift certificate on the 80% off code and using the certificate for Stripburger. :)
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

I tried that once and the $25 Stripburger wasn't available to purchase using that route. Maybe I hit a glitch if it worked for you.

In regards to Circus Circus, I've stayed there twice when I've been in Vegas. We've $20 tipped up to the renovated west tower rooms both times and we find these rooms to be more than fine, better than many UK hotels easily - everything is relative here. No noise, no problems.

Sure, it is a little walk to mid-strip but yes, we did walk and we always enjoyed the walk. It's nice to catch some air and not gamble every minute.

It's not the nicest hotel in Vegas and it certainly is not for everyone but for anyone who has booked, I'm hopeful it won't be your worst nightmares coming true!

I don't think CircusCircus is as bad as some people make out -even though I'd never stay there but have gambled there and looked at rooms. I have stayed right opposite at the Riviera -stayed alone and didn't feel unsafe in that area and tbh I think you could be unlucky enough to get mugged anywhere in Vegas.....or London....or Manchester etc

It's cheap and the rooms are slightly nicer than the equally cheap but more centrally located Imperial Palace but really when you're paying $30 a night -you can't be expecting alot surely ? As Vince says You get what you pay for. Definitely worth paying a little more to get a MUCH better hotel tho.

like most hotels in Vegas, I have to assume that there are better rooms and worse rooms at CC - like if you get stuck in the Manor Motor Lodge, you might think differently about it than if you got a renovated room. And it always depends on expectations. I hate the property as a whole - find the casino to be really grotty and depressing myself...so it's not a place we would consider, and I think that for not a lot more money there are much nicer places out there...but understand if it's perfectly acceptable for some.

Luci - I was definately able to use the gift card balance to get a Stripburger certificate this month...I did wonder if it would work as I recalled you had had problems before. Maybe there are so many allocated to be available that route or something?

I very much agree with this. Me and DH stayed there on our 3rd trip to Vegas, and found it very clean and comfortable. We rated it a lot better than the Riveria, the rooms there were rather dark and depressing and smelt of cigar smoke (even though it was supposed to be a non-smoking room). We didn't mind the Sahara either on our very first trip, although it is rather outdated.
In fact the only gripe we had with Circus Circus was with the lifts, they took an age to arrive at your floor, more than once we ended up going up and down the stairs - all 22 flights of them
In regards to the area, we have always felt safe walking up and down that part of the strip, it's if you go past the Stratosphere then it gets rather dodgy. Only time we have felt a little unsure was when we got offered wacky-baccy satays near that petrol station near there, and even then it lasted all of 30 seconds. If you use common sense, you're ok, doesn't matter where you are.
