MarchHappy New Year to everyone too.....
Just read the last 2 pages on the old thread and couldn't for the life of me work out why the quote was missing... lol
Triker - glad you've managed to book something for your March dates without having to sell a kidney :rotfl: Must admit I didn't know where the Carriage House was, but the location looks great....
Gill? - I did Vegas and Cancun last year. We booked all our flights with BA including all the connections (onto American Airlines) once we had decided how many days we wanted to be away in both locations. We then booked our hotels and stuff on our own, as we like to have the flexibility of taking advantage of Vegas hotel offers, and the flexibility to cancel without penalties if plans change. We priced up lots of different airlines at the time, and BA was only a few quid more, direct and I must admit I quite like BA (even if we did get wrapped up in the strike dates last March - thankfully the Vegas flight went as planned in the end).
I also went into some of the travel agents on the high street at the time and found they were actually very competitive, with one waiving their commission, and I had checked the prices for booking direct, so I know that they couldn't make very much money from us. If you like someone to do everything for you, don't be scared to chance your arm with a travel agent, but make sure you know what it costs to book DIY before you go, so you know how much extra they would be charging you for the convenience of someone taking control of things.......
Spalding - I've been in the 1st week in Sept, yep, hot, one night it was still 100 degrees at midnight..... oh, and I've not been in the Tropicana since the refit - I hated it the one and only time I was ever in it.Love MSE, Las Vegas and chocolate!0 -
OctoberOk I'm getting closer to booking something, fingers itching! A couple of questions
How hot is it in August? Anyone been peoples views looking end of Aug
And Anyone stayed at the Tropicana since the refit, Whats the rooms and pool like?
CheersThe common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0 -
OctoberJust add the config of the BA flight should be 2-4-2 after the 1st june (I think) when they start using 747The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. Been in Aug between 100 and 110 every day when I went last year...its HOT !!! as stoneman says you know what to wear in my case shorts and flip flops all the time:D
I went in the Trop casino although they hadnt quite finished, i didnt like it, have to say the refurb rooms do look good and appear to be great value, the pool is also supposed to be good, shame about the location0 -
MayI did August this...er I mean last year and have done it in July before too. It's a dry heat but it does make walking (of which there is MUCH more of in Vegas than you'd expect) really tiring. Lots of places with AC to pop into enroute but don't expect to do anything in a rush or you'll spontaneously combust
You just have to REALLY like the heat -and constantly slather the factor 30. As someone said the temp doesn't drop at night-It's still 80 at midnight. Pools aren't usually open past early evening so no quick dips to cool off after an evening out. One of the nicest evenings I had last year was a private pool party where we sat around with drinks and nibbles-made a nice change from negociating the hot, sweaty humanity on the Strip in the evenings.
What is it about the Trop that is making it seem so tempting -when everyone here is so unenthusiastic. Really-it's an old hotel, not in the best location -and as everyone keeps saying-there are better options. maybe if we could understand why it draws you we could suggest something else that still ticks the boxes. (I still think you should look at the Flamingo)
Fares drop dramatically at the end of August so I think it's a great time to go-US schools go back in July/early August so not over busy with families too.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

Duchy, it's my 4th trip normally go in Oct, Nov time so gonna be a little different in Aug! As you said fares do drop a good bit the last week.
Went in the Trop in Oct when I was out there and liked the feel of the redesign (I know others disagree) and the new rooms look really nice from the photo's online, the pool has just been redone more of a factor for a Aug holiday than my normal time of the year!! And a good bit cheaper than everything else out there at the mo so thought would be a good one to book for now and keep my eyes open for any good deals £206 for five nights.0 -
MayI had a look at the Trop in August and I wasn't over thrilled with it -seemed pretty ordinary -and the deal breaker for me was the location-a bit too far south for me. August is pretty good for deals though so who knows where you'll end upI Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
