Ferf, the daily withdrawal with the Clarity is £500 a day so a decent amount. The Nationwide FlexAccount is only £300 a day, but you can get double that if it's a joint account of course.

You know, the funny thing is - we knew our Santander Zero account had a £300-day limit...it's a joint account...and this post you have just made has probably explained why we were able to each make a withdrawal on the same day recently...we thought it was a glitch...we always assumed that the limit was for the account -not for each user/card on the account. YOu have no idea how many times in the lead up to a trip, when we're taking GBP out to exchange for USD that we've made multiple trips to a cashpoint over muliple days - timing things just right s o the other one doesn't get stuck unable to withdraw cash when they need to. :)

Also - thank you pebbles for the extension lead tip! It's never even occurred to me and we have a lot of gadgets to charge...though we have learned the charge phones/media players from the laptop via USB trick. :)

This is my tip for everyone who has a bunch of gadgets to recharge. Take a 4 way extension lead with you. I could easily recharge everything from that and only use one socket in the room. We have a computer, 2 x mobiles, 2 x cameras and various other stuff to recharge regularly. With the extension lead it was much easier, and nowhere near as much messing about. I wish I'd done it years ago.

If some of you already do this, why didn't you tell me!

I used to travel a lot on business so have always done this. I even got hold of country specific plugs and put them on to save mucking about with adaptors!

That's nothing compared to some of the African technicians I've had working alongside me on various trips to the continent. They dont bother with plugs, let along plug adapters.

2 bare wires straight into the socket is good enough for them.

One particularly worrying time was in Nairobi in 2008. We had built an exhibition stand that was to site in an outside exhibition hall, just at the start of the rainy season. We were in the middle of a massive rain storm. We had to lay a wood laminate floor, and needed power to the stand for them to use the electric saws, drills and assorted tools. The organisers arranged for an extension cable to be laid to give us power on the stand but the workers didnt have the right plug sockets so ripped the plugs off their power tools and stuck the bare wires straight in the extension lead.

Needless to say I gave the whole area a wide berth and decided to set up all teh AV side of things when the area was a little bit safer.

Wow - BF has just booked us a week to Vegas in August staying at the MGM Grand... Ive never been to Vegas before but he has... I came on here looking for some pointers on things to do and see and I am amazed and the amount of pre-planning you all do! Im feeling somewhat under-prepared now and feel I should draw up my battle plans immediately! :rotfl:

Thank for all the info - Its amazing (and slightly intimidating!) I shall need to allocate myself some quiet time and go through the thread later!

Thanks for the tip on taking an extension lead along....such a simple thing when you think about it but it never occured to me before! :)

The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

Not all of us! I've seen some posts where people have pre-planned their dinners for ever night of their holiday, a bit much for me IMO. It's good to plan but I also think it's good to get there, explore and just lose yourself in the place too and find little things for yourself.
    Enjoy, it's a great place
